My lifelong dairy intolerence has recently exploded into a full-blown allergy (basically I have this ongoing GI complaint that's not exactly anything major, but still somewhat annoying and fairly constant), and as a consequence I've now decided to cut all dairy out for at least the next two weeks (and base anything else after that on what happens in the next fortnight).

I've heard from a few people who can't handle dairy that goat's milk is fine for them - anyone got any experience of this? I figure as someone with an ASD it's probably a good idea to be cutting the caseine out anyway, but does goat's milk still count in this?

Any ideas or tips?

Goats milk is good for lactose intolerance, but if thats not what you've got, you'll have to wing it. My best advice: Try it. The stuff from stores tastes like crap, but if you don't live on a farm, it's your only option.

Why not go with Soy milk? no lactose at all in that.

Ahh, but the problem with soy milk is it has soy in it. ;)

Soy is super bad, especially for women... it mimics oestrogen, wreaks havoc on various systems and organs, mucks up your thyroid (which I have family history of) etc...

The only safe soy is small amounts of fermented stuff.

The mimicking of estrogen might be a good thing, depending on the person. Soy foods are associated with lower breast cancer, less PMS, easier menopause transition. While soy does have an estrogen-like effect, it is much weaker than the real hormone.

Soy can slow the thyroid (so can broccoli, cabbage, and cauliflower).
