Why are designated hitters like Boston's David Ortiz even allowed to enter into the conversation about who should be the AL's most valuable player, while football kickers like Adam Vinatieri and Jason Hanson are lumped in with the towel boy for the title of MVP in the NFL? If you compare the two positions, I'd say the kicker actually deserves MORE respect, cause at least he does a whole lot more scoring. How much does a DH actually contribute to a baseball game, anyway? He sits on his a$$ waiting for his turn at bat, then he takes his position at the plate, and if he's good misses 70% of the time. Then, when he's done, he goes back to the dugout and sits on his a$$ again while his teammates have to actually run out onto the field, in the sun/heat/cold/elements--whatever--and try to run down and retrieve balls? While in contrast, a football kicker is expected to make all of his scoring attempts, unless they're really long ones (say 40 yards or more). In fact, if you're a really crappy football team (like the Detroit Lyin's), your kicker may be the only guy doing any scoring of any kind. Besides, he's the only player on the field who's actually playing football!

So stop slagging the kickers already!
