Does anyone have any tips?

I injured myself (severely pulled abdominal and chest muscles with partial first and second degree tears), and it is slowly and steadily healing. But working out is out of the question. I'm just getting back to walking at a normal pace.

When I get worked up I get "ansty", twisting and shifting. One of the reasons I became so involved in sports was to get better control of my body. Now I can't work out, and all my little habits are painful (not so much the shifting, but twisting right now is very painful and I can't stop doing it).

The doctor was very nice and wrote me some prescriptions to hopefully speed the healing process. But my brain right now isn't doing so well.

Anything you can share? Anything at all...I'm afraid I'm going to make it worse because I can't calm down.

Try applying ice packs to the injuries for about 15-20 minutes a few times per day.

yeah, REST. I can't stress enough how important rest is. don't start working out again until it's healed, if it's not healed when you start up again you run a big risk of re injuring yourself, and possibly worse than the first time. i know how much it sucks to be hurt and away from your sport, last summer i got trigger finger (essentially tendinitis in your fingers) in 7 fingers right in the middle of the summer rowing season so i didn't want to take time off. finally i missed one practice because it hurt too badly and told my coach about it, he sent me home until i got a doctor's note saying i could come back. after two weeks i still had symptoms but it was getting better so i was allowed to return. the condition stayed with me until sometime in september, but i think it would have healed a lot more quickly had i taken one more week off.

other than that, make sure you're still eating, you don't want to diet while recovering from an injury, it'll only slow the healing process. your pulled abs are probably going to prevent you from doing most forms of cardio, but you should try to find some way to stay fit while you recover. biking is pretty easy on your abs compared to a lot of other cardio so you should try that out. another thing, try to work out what you can in the meantime. don't to squats until your abs are healed but they should take less time than your chest so try to get some leg and back training in while you wait for your chest to heal.

injury sucks and it's really restrictive but it doesn't mean you have to stop all training. do what you can in the meantime but make sure you let your body heal or you'll regret it.
