seizure caused by exercise?
The other day during training ride I started to feel sick, heart rate went to 190, was seeing spots (not unusual when your hr is maxed) and I was not pushing it that hard. I thought it must have been something I eat or maybe I was dehydrated or something. But then after the ride I was relaxing and then started to see spots and had seizure. Since the ride this has happened a few times and then my brain is in the fog and I kept having a brief load ring in my right ear, and my right leg kept twitching and I kept seeing the spots floating around. Then I had other type of seizure I have. I was sick in the stomach last night and couldn't sleep and my leg kept doing the twitching thing. I finally fell asleep and I feel much better now. My head hurt most of today and I feel like I could sleep for a couple days, but I feel much better. Non of this is new for me, but I have never had it happen so much in two days. Just wondering if it is possible the ride triggered something.
Sometimes if my bloodsugar gets too low I can have a seizure. If you didn't eat enough and burned too many calories, or just used up your blood sugar faster than your liver could release the glucose from the glycogen it stores you could get hypoglycemic.
Hypoglycemia can cause something called neuroglycopenia, which can cause your brain to malfunction. When I get hypoglycemic it's not unusual for me to hear a ringing in my ears or see flashing lights or spots. My heart races, I get cold sweats, and my hands and feet go numb. Also I can have extreme nausea.....
The episode you had sounds a lot like neuroglycopenia. One really quick fix for it is to drink some orange juice (hopefully you catch it before the nausea comes). If you start to feel better, within 5-10 minutes....it was just low blood sugar.
I have something called reactive hypoglycemia, and once it's set off it keeps happening, and I keep having those symptoms until my body figures out how to stabilize my blood sugar. I have a low seizure threshold as it is....so it's pretty easy to set off a few partial seizures due to low blood sugar.
Before you work out make sure you eat something that will be able to keep your blood sugar from dropping too low during your workout (whole grains, protein, fat). You could also sip on a sports drink throughout your workout (just don't drink the entire thing....only about 8oz)...to keep you blood sugar up.
Thanks, could be it, I usually carry a jell packet (sugery goo stuf) to prevent glucose from crashing, as that is what happens when you 'hit the wall'. Although I didnt really get that feeling, it still could have been it. I am thinking maybe it was probably a combination of things that were off.
