Some places will let you do monthly payments. When you go in to get your teeth done, you can ask them if they let people do monthly payments. I'm sure they will because they want to make their money and the only way they can do that is if they let people do their payments every month than not getting people at all because they can't afford to pay it all at once so they don't go and get their teeth fixed. That's just my guess why places have monthly payments.

How close are you to the University of Iowa?
Here's the link for the Iowa Dental School
(In my city our dental school offers very low cost services.)
Also, is it possible you qualify for T19? They cover dental services.

I know around here they have a dental clinic, as part of the free health clinic, but the waiting list is usualy very long in most places. You want to start contacting places asap cuase you are probably going to be on a wait list, as dental services are hard to get in most areas. If it hurts really bad, get yourself some orajell (the stuff you put on the tooth to numb it) and take some tylenol.

It would be a last-ditch resort, but if it's truly debilitating, I understand the ER will pull teeth. The downside is a huge bill that you probably can't pay, but unlike private practitioners the ER is used to that. For us poor folk, it's as close as we can come to universal healthcare.

Myself; I am plagued with many dental issues and get it all done in Mexico where it's extremely affordable and I get better care than in the U.S. Being on the northern end of the country I wonder if a trip to Canada would be worth it? I haven't heard how much (if at all) less their dentistry is than ours.

Finally, if it's not a dire emergency but there's a pain issue, one part clove oil mixed with one part olive oil. Just a drop or two on the affected area is a great natural painkiller.

Good luck. I totally feel ya when it comes to dental woes!
