Fantasy Baseball (Predict-the-Series)
All right...so far, I have about 5 players that I personally know. The question is this: Do you want to join?
Rules are simple:
Every three days (Monday/Thursday, unless there are 4-game series, which would then be Monday/Friday), I send out questions like the one below:
Yankees vs. Red Sox
Pick:
Diamondbacks vs. Padres
Pick:
Bonus: Today, the Mets are starting their first homestand at the new Citi Field. Will they win their first series? They are playing...team X.
Pick:
The pick space is where you fill in your picks. There will be approximately 54 rounds, plus playoffs. You can do a "trial run," if you'd like, by joining the "Predict-the-Series, World Baseball Classic edition" in which you predict the winners from the various pools during the world baseball classic.
For the first 17 rounds, there will be 9 series to predict per week. Then 7 per week for the next 7 weeks. And finally 5 series per week for the last rounds.
During the regular season, up to the all-star break, players earn bonus points by responding to the questions (2 points per email/PM/whatever). After the all-star break, players can then wager these points.
Finally, if you want to play, make these picks:
1) Who will win the AL East?
2) Who will win the AL Central?
3) Who will win the AL West?
4) Who will win the AL Wild Card?
5) Who will win the NL East?
6) Who will win the NL Central?
7) Who will in the NL West?
Who will win the NL Wild Card?
Please PM me these answers!
These picks are worth 10 points each. At the All-Star Break, you can change any or all of them. The picks that you do change will be worth 5 points insteado f 10. So for instance, if you picked the Diamondbacks to win the NL Wild Card, and then at the break (worth 10 points), you changed it to be the Padres, then that question will be worth just 5 points. If you picked the Phillies for the NL East, and did NOT change your pick, it would still be worth 10 points.
Finally! There are the playoffs. During the playoffs, all contestants are pitted against another one based on rank. The winner of it all will be crowned champion of the Post Season.
Points will be posted so that those of you who don't want to play can keep track of the results.
Any questions? Please post them here.

World Series match up: Chicago Cubs versus Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.
Both of these clubs will go past their first round playoff woes this time around and beyond; even if it means the Angels got to beat my team, the Red Sox to do it. I hope I'm wrong here but I can't pick my team to go to the world series every year. I was right in 2007 and wrong in 2008.
Here I am seven months later to look at the results
Here's how the standings finished as
American League
AL East:
1. Yankees
2. Red Sox
3. Rays
4. Blue Jays
5. Orioles
Okay, so the Yankees huge shopping spree paid off big time. I was wrong and didn't expected them to win over 100 games. Still, I knew both the Yankees and Red Sox would make it to the postseason regardless. I was right on with the other 3 team standings though. I knew the Rays wouldn't make it back to the postseason.
AL Central:
1. Twins
2. Tigers
3. White Sox
4. Indians
5. Royals
Well, my prediction of the Twins winning the Central turned out to be correct though I didn't expect it to go down to 163 games to decide it. The Tigers were much better then I thought they would be even though they collapsed at the end of the season. The White Sox were worse then I thought they would be and the Indians were 10 times worse then I thought they would be.
AL West:
1. Angels
2. Rangers
3. Mariners
4. Athletics
The Angels winning the west was a no brainier but I was surprised on how big of an improvement the Rangers were. They even put a scare into the Red Sox for about 2 weeks before they fell out of the wild card race. The Mariners improved, then again they had to after losing 100 games last year(I think). Why did I pick the Athletics to finish second?
National League:
NL East:
1. Phillies
2. Marlins
3. Braves
4. Mets
5. Nationals
I knew the defending World Champs would be back to defend their crown. I predicted that the Mets would win the wild card and I couldn't have been more wrong. The Mets season turned out far worse then I could have imagined. That's part of sports, things are going to happen in ways you can't see coming.
NL Central:
1. Cardinals
2. Cubs
3. Brewers
4. Reds
5. Astros
6. Pirates
I predicted that the Cubs would get to the world series like an ass. I'm glad I'm not a real Cubs fan because it's got to be tough. They miss the postseason and yet another year will go by without a World Series title. I thought the Cubs were going to be the elite of the National League but things just didn't work out for them this year. I'm surprised that I overlooked the Cardinals though as they proved to be a very good team with the soon to be MVP, Prince Albert. I should have at least picked them to win the wild card over the Mets. What a fool I am.
NL West:
1. Dodgers
2. Rockies
3. Giants
4. Diamondbacks
5. Padres
The Dodgers will be back in the postseason as I was expected although the Rockies almost took the Division. I was way off on everything else as the Rockies regained their 2007 form and are going back to the postseason. I was also way off as I predicted they would be forth and I can't believe I picked the Diamondbacks to finish second.
So what will happen in the postseason this year? This is going against everything I stand for but the Yankees are way better then I could have ever imagined(or ever wanted). They are a monster of a team and it's going to take a miracle to stop them in the postseason so my world series prediction:
Phillies versus Yankees.
Lets see if I'm right in 3-4 weeks. I hope I'm wrong!! !! !
For Division winners, I'd bet for
Red Sox
Twins
Angels
White Sox
Mets
Cubs
Diamondbacks
Cardinals
Surprisingly accurate for AL, but it was Yankees instead of the White Sox. So oh well.
I'd been less accurate for NL, as it was Phillies and Dodgers and then (woohoo) Rockies in the playoffs.
Perhaps it'd be the Yankees vs the Dodgers for the WS!

My predicted World Series matchup will be correct; with such a huge advantage, the Yankees will finish off the Angels tonight and then it will be a Phillies and Yankees World Series like I expected.
World Series prediction: Yankees in 5.
I got to be realistic here, the Yankees were the monsters of the postseason and with the way their pitching and hitting is matched up, it's almost impossible for them to lose. It took eight years but the Yankees were able to buy a World Series title this time. 400 million for three players, who knew it would work so soon?

I was one game off but the New York Bankees, cashed in on their championship. Usually I'm a good sport but for this team, I cannot be happy for. Baseball allowed them to spend and spend and spend and buy every good player off the market. No salary cap, no limits. What a long off season this will be. I'll admit, Matsui surprised me for being so good and he was literally, Pedro's daddy. Matsui was justa DH who couldn't play the outfield at all but he showed everyone he still has plenty of game left in him. I wish him well because the Yankees won't bring him back.
