I am a synaesthete and it's overrated, I promise. I really thought (long ago) everyone was similarly endowed. I can hear color/light, and see sound. From physics, when an excited electron drops back range, energy is released in the form is light, sound, heat, energy. So I do not think at all it's contrived that one would be a synaesthete. I do use this in the laboratory. For instance, I can tune a sonicator with my eyes. A sonicator emits ultrasonic wavves, which I always see as yellow. If it's not yellow, that sonicator is not tuned properly! Then, if the instrument if out of tune, I'll see yellow orange. See, it works. Otherwise, it's a pain. Overhwhelming, seizure-inducing way too much sensory overload information: an avalanche of data. So, I don't think being a synaesthete is that great or dramatic at all.
For those who have serious disorders, such as chronic depression, paranoid schizophrenia, etc. I do feel sad since they truly do suffer, and that's just not fair. I think being a HFA is enough! I have plenty to overcome with that, I promise! Rough. No one understands (or cares) what I think/feel/sense. I must translate to be understood.
Back to topic: If I had a wish list of comormidity, how about Spontaneous Human Combustion! Now that's exciting! Impressive even.
