I have these horrible mood swings which are usually triggered by things. They last for a few hours but I can go suicidal and even try and harm myself. I can also go into a full out blown rage. If you guys know of any effective ways to deal with these instead of hurting yourself please let me know. Thanks

I struggle with depression and sometimes have thoughts of suicide.

I think what you have described may be what's called agitated depression, and which I understand is relatively common. And in large part, a solution might be balancing your biochem. As I've read, something like Zoloft might work great for some people, not do a damn thing for others, or have undesirable side-effects. So, it's trial and error, in a respectable way, and having a doctor who accepts this and who isn't a pompous jackass (which means probably not a psychiatrist!) I'm sorry, I have not had good experiences, other people have. All the same, a 'regular' doctor like an internist or family practitioner can prescribe antidepressants just as well as a psychiatrist can. Lately, I've looked up some news articles where the reporter just does some medical journalism on the topic of depression and posted some links. If you're interested, please let me know and I can re-post.

Also, maybe having a couple of positives going at once, even just a couple of websites where you're making positive contributions. Then if one goes poorly, it doesn't always hurt at much.

And perhaps consider political activism? I mean, there are a lot of sorry features about the world. for starters, how we stupidly and casually exclude people. How is 10% unemployment at all morally acceptable? I don't think that it is. Or, why can't we have both economic growth and environmental protection?

antidepressants
anti-anxiety medicine
therapy
exercise
socialization in any way possible
something you find soothing +involving (for me, playing piano/singing)

The first three/four are pretty crucial I'd say. Without them I relapsed time and again into what you're describing. With them I've been doing well for a long time (except for when I stupidly went off them for short periods).
