A useful little self-test for those who suspect they may have Bipolar disorder.

http://www.blackdoginstitute.org.au/pub ... f-test.cfm

I scored 28.

This self-test does not render a definitive diagnosis. If you suspect that you have a bipolar disorder, you should consult your physician.

I am well aware of that. I thought it was a useful tool for research and self investigation - like those Asperger's quizzes so commonly shared on WP. If one did suspect they had bipolar due to taking this quiz, then the next step would be to book an appointment with a clinician.

Personally my diagnosis is uncertain due to two conflicting opinions, but the one who wasn't sure about my bipolar just felt she had to investigate further first before confirming, and I think I am close to a confirmation.

Seems more like a test to see if you are experiencing mania.

I'd leave this one to the pdocs!

LOL that alone would give me mixed results each time I take the test

I got a 41 but I answered the questions by saying how I feel when I do go manic, not right now. I am diagnosed as schizoaffective disorder bipolar type. I don't think my manias are as severe as this test suggests. Actually my manias are not that serious and are more like hypomanic episodes. My schizoaffective disorder is much more mild compared to others with the disorder. For example its rare for me to actually hear voices. According to the test if you score higher than 22 its possible that you have bipolar disorder.

If you read the page, it doesn't want you to answer the questions as if they meant you were feeling it right now, they wanted you to answer them in regards to your last "up" phase.

I'm diagnosed with Bipolar I and I scored 45. But I've been on the right medication for quite some time now and haven't had a manic episode in more than 2 years.

But I would also advocate speaking to a doctor if you suspect bipolar disorder.

I was diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder in my first year at university, but the diagnosis was refuted a couple of years back. I clicked on the link, and I have to say, I'm so glad that I didn't qualify for answering the questions on the scale itself. I have, however read, that diagnoses of BPD are common in people with undiagnosed ASD.

oops, I think I linked to the wrong version (the short version) of the quiz. The one I did was much more thorough, pages and pages, including the stuff in the short one.

I just took the test and when I got to the part with all the boxes to check about how you feel when you are 'up' is the way I feel all the time!

45, Cyclothymic, or Bipolar NOS, although some of the questions kind of more resembled a Schizotypy checklist.

Haha, 31. Last doctor I saw told me that all bright people are a bit nuts (this was at the health centre for a prestigious UK university). Helpful.

I said in another Topic that I took one of those Bipolar self assessment test which indicate that I didn't have bipolar. I also said I was never diagnosed for it. This test that indicated that I didn't have Bipolar was not from WP. But, I did take the test listed in the first post, twice. And both scores were only 3 points apart. The first score was 33 and the second score was 30. Anything over 22 indicates Bipolar I or II and that I should get professional help. I knew I had some behaviors of Bipolar, but I was surprise at the score on this test.

I do remember going crazy a few times losing all of my faculties. The worst was when I was walking into the ladies restroom were I worked, slipped on some soapy water in the door way. I don't know what happend, but I went crazy while still laying on the floor and started kicking the door and anything else I can kick. Since I had to use marking pens on the job I was doing, I got up and covered the ladies restroom wall using my marking pens. I finally came to my senses and stopped marking the wall, returning to the press I operated all of the time and started working as if nothing happened. They never found out who vandalized the lady's restroom.

There are times where nothing would really set me off, but I would be set off and have thrown tape records, pots and pans and other objects causing in some cases a lot of distruction. I have tried to put my fist through the wall. When I was still in school and I accidently got hurt, I would go off again and try to beat on the class mate that caused the accident and others had to hold me back. I lost my faculties in all of these situations and didn't know what I was doing. There has been many other incidence where I would lose it. My temper don't get out of control now like it use to, but I do have fits once in a while that is pretty serious that cause damage to something or cause me some pain.

I also have severe mood swings though they aren't as bad as they use to be. I go from deep depression to being unusually happy. And these mood swings can change in less then a minute where I'm crying one minute and then laughing the next.

I know I have HFA. Given what I told you here. Do you think I have bipolar too?

I scored 27. My mum and my aunt are bipolar and it runs in my family but I still don't believe that I'm bipolar. I do however, have depression and social anxiety disorder.
