Hi,

I'm new to the board. I have schizoaffective disorder. I am aware that it is not uncommon for ASD to have a notable discrepancy between their VIQ and PIQ. It happens that my PIQ - VIQ = 8 to10 points, which I find peculiar given that I don't believe having Asperger's syndrome. Do you think there is a need to further investigate what the implications of my scores are in terms of mental health? My second question concerns ocd-like symptoms I experience on occasions. A year ago, I became obsessed for a brief period (2 weeks) with arranging objects in a symmetrical fashion. I would spend the whole day doing and re-doing the arrangements.
Then nothing happened until recently when I was working on a math problem which involves heavy thinking. I would obsess over the problem, repeating mathematical thoughts, unable to concentrate in conversation because my mind would be uncontrollably preoccupied with the problem, and I would experience high levels of anxiety and start repeating phrases and words for a long period of time to soothe the anxiety. This lasted about 3 days. Should I be concerned? I would appreciate hearing your take on that to help me make sense of my experience.

Thank you.

8 - 10 points is not much difference in IQ types. mine differ by 50 points. anyway, a difference indicates a learning disability of any sort, not just AS.

as far as the obsessions and compulsions, if they take up more than an hour a day on most days, that makes for a diagnosis of the anxiety disorder known as OCD.
