Does anyone else see completely random images in their mind’s eye? They’re things like a dog, a random person I have never seen before, a completely random object etc. it happens way more when I close my eyes and before I fall asleep. They’re extremely vivid. Kinda like intrusive thoughts but images. It also happens in the middle of the day when I’m fully awake but not often.

I don’t think they would be considered hallucinations, it’s all in my imagination.

I had them as a kid but they’re much more frequent now.

Yes. Kinda like intrusive thoughts but images is a good description.

Ah, good. I brought it up to my mother and she said she never had that in her life. It’s odd just how random and vivid they are. I’m not thinking about dogs at all and then suddenly a super vivid image of a Labrador will appear.

Sounds like a radio tuner picking up bits and pieces of stations on the air.

I would not dismiss them altogether, these visions may have meaning. Past, present, or future. Perhaps it would be helpful to jot such things down in a journal for later contemplation.

When my daughter (it was just she and I in the household) were tucked in for the night (we shared a room and until she was 4, a bed. That's poverty for ya!) we would lie in the dark and blurt out what we were seeing on the insides of our eyeballs. I was so grateful that she was able to do this. It could pretty much be anything that would appear. Could be as convoluted as a kangaroo wearing a blue baseball hat climbing a rope ladder.

Yes.

Voluntarily and involuntarily.
But I have more conscious control over my visualization than not.
And that control multiplied when I no longer contend constantly against maladaptive daydreaming.

The intrusive aspects of my mind isn't coming from where I directly utilize visualization; but sometimes that intrusive thought uses visualization.

But when I let it be; it usually turns out very random, or weird and awkward... Or creepy in some cases.
One of few ways I can peek into my own subconsicous.

Latter can be so useful in meditation if I want to feel fear and figure that fear out myself.

If the creepiness wins, I'd actually get anxiety symptoms. As in disruptive sleep, intrusive creepy imagery and worrying scenarios and thoughts, hypervigilance, etc.
At least I know how to solve it directly and consciously know how to stop.

If the awkwardness wins, I'll get weird thoughts.
It can reveal stuff I'm really ashamed or guilty of and start fleeing off and actually act more awkward and feeling awkward over awkwardness. Usually, it fades when I forget it.

If the randomness wins, I'd get really new ideas, compose random songs I can very much recall never composed before in my head, conjure imagery that I don't think is common from my usual thought pattern.
Too bad it fades, too.

Thoughts and feelings utilizing my visualization all the same.

I appear to have nearly no mind's eye.

I really can't visualize anything to speak of. If I try to visualize something, I can visualize it, at most, for maybe a fraction of a second and then it is gone.

So the thought of visualizing random images is really strange. I had never heard of it nor considered the very idea.

I do, but they are more like silhouettes. Recently, I saw a person moving through a window out of the corner of my eye; I looked insane.

I also get auditory hallucinations sometimes; like my mom calling my name.

Not sure why this happens I always thought because of this I was more susceptible to schizophrenia or something 8O.

A lto of weird stuff happens in the brain. Oliver Sachs' book Musicophilia: Tales of Music and the Brain goes into a fair amount of detail on various ways in which the brain can deal with sounds improperly.

For me personally, the hallucinations went away when I started to make nice and really explore what sorts of sounds I could mentalize. Apparently, I can't visualize like anything, but I can create some pretty sophisticated sounds in my head. And if I really concentrate, I used to be able to experience them like real sounds. These days, it only happens if I get extremely stressed out and tired and am understimulated.
