My variety is more cyclothymic, I haven't *yet* gone over the edge to the degree that someone was pretty sure I belonged in observation at the least.

I have been "saved" by a group of people who were least likely to kid about such things tell me that I should go see a psychiatrist...now.

I find my "natural" inclination to be along to sometime work for depression, sometimes Wellbutrin works, sometime marijuana, I've tried most of them, I was a psychiatrist for 15 years.

Update from HaL!

Well I'm okay with my bipolar disorder. Lithium is working wonders here and for now I have zero side effects.

I made huge progress in understanding my autism and was real lucky to find people on my level to support me with it.

But I still have extreme problems with my chronic state of tension which is a result of 7 1/2 wrong treatment.

Because I can't deal with this ugly state anymore longer, I'm going to see the best available expert for autism and bipolar disorders. He is also a leading scientist on autism so I really hope to find some new ideas there. My own Shrink is out of ideas. I am such a extreme case that I crack all limits. So my appointment with the expert is on the 21. March and I really really hope that he can offer me something new.

Great to hear Hal! Especially on the zero side effects front - unfortunately for me lithium in a high enough dosage to be fully effective tends to induce chronic fatigue. I understand about the referral thing, I got referred on too to the leading specialist in my city because my psyc at the time was in it over her head. It's really funny because now fully medicated I seem to show the same level of symptoms I've seen/heard of in most other bipolar people (it's like I'm not fixed at all!), but before medication my depressive symptoms were very extreme.

Been a while since I updated on myself so here goes....

Since late December I've been hearing voices, angry voices, and seeing people while alone in my apartment. On top of this, the world periodically shifts... as if I've lost my balance but I've not moved. Sometimes I'm sitting when this happens, other times not. My paranoia has also spiraled out of control whenever this stuff happens.

I've not determined if this is happening during a hypo-manic episode or not, but if it is wouldn't it then be considered full blown mania? Either way, I think I need to get my butt to a clinic because it's taken 3 months of my life so far. I've been on hold while everyone around me moves forward... and I can't continue like this.

TeaEarlGreyHot, Hope you're o.k. and can find and get to a clinic. Is it possible you've developed ( and is what I have as well), which is Meniere's disease, see: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmedhealth/PMH0001721/ . Perhaps you've already looked into this, if so, 'scuse the unnecessary post.
When it first hit me I thought I had lost my mind &/or was dying. It settled down after a few weeks of h--- and being on medication. Left me with hearing loss, constant tinnitus. I don't ever want that extreme vertigo again, it was truly horrible - house, floor, furniture all spinning and me not being able to "hold on" anywhere.
- hope you are feeling better soon.

I'd not looked into that, actually. I have a history of inner ear infections, though and drink/smoke... a lot. Still, that doesn't explain seeing people walking around my apartment when I'm alone.

I've seen and heard things like this as far back as I can remember, but it was never this pronounced before. For a time I worried I might have developed Schizophrenia or something along similar lines. I do know they considered this when I was a tween but dismissed the things I was seeing/hearing as PTSD.

Hello everyone.

I was diagnosed with AS and bipolar around the same time. Unfortunately, I am currently in a depressed state, but the fact that it will get better keeps me going. :)

Hi ainsel, are you on/trailing any medication currently?

Tea, do you find it's too expensive to afford meds? (I know it's super expensive in america, costs me next to nothing here because I'm on a government support plan). I think it's really important for you to medicate yourself if you can, I mean I'm not exactly a prime example as I haven't gotten my meds right yet but compared to before medication last year my life has radically improved.

Either way, I think seeing a psyc is very important, as if you are truly seeing/hearing voices then you're probably either manic, schizoaffective, or schizophrenic.

Right now I can't even afford to feed myself properly. I've been relying on donations just not to starve. However, I understand there's a clinic around here that charges at most a dollar to be seen. Soon as I have the time/money/means to get there, I'm going to.

I hear people walking around even when there are no people and I don't think its PTSD. My psychotherapist said it can be possible during manic episodes. But I think its paranoia on my part.

I have paranoia issues during a hypo-manic episode.

I've not had an episode for months now and my paranoia is in control so I think my paranoia should be related to bipolar instead of schizophrenia which I was suspecting.
