I most likely do not have ADHD. The most apparent symptom I have is fidgeting, which could be interpreted as hyperactivity, but I'm almost 100% sure that's stimming, because I do it unconsciously to help me concentrate on my thoughts. While I find it hard to concentrate on things I don't want to do, alright, seriously, who doesn't? I am easily distracted, but I blame that on having a brain that cannot multitask under any conditions whatsoever.

Have it or not I take pills for it - Ritalin - which are extremely helpful to me.

So do I.

And I guess; even if most people (that does not "need it") possibly could benefit from a therapeutic dose of Ritalin, without too many ill effects, I don't think they could take 20mg (my morning dose) before going to bed without having trouble sleeping*, so I'm pretty sure I have a legitimate need to use them.

*I did that once, by accident. I was reorganizing my Dosett (pillbox) before going to bed. My brain "short-circuited" and decided I was holding pills in my hand because I was about to take them. I had no trouble sleeping; but I did have very vivid and colourful dreams (they are usually mostly monochrome) that night ;)

I got diagnosed with it in Feb. I been on Concerta since then. I can tell you what it has been like to know why I can't do this or that. But, I didnt have Concerta to May couple of days after my Spring finals for college happen. I'm more calm, more focus got, more get up and go, and I can finally pay attention to tasks I dislike. I was like a dreamer, who couldn't keep my mind on what the teacher would say, in my mind what?what did they say to do?

I was originally diagnosed with ADHD (at the time it was just called "ADD"). I view it as a comorbid condition and part of Aspergers. I'm not a doctor or psychologist but I believe it's generally best to avoid diagnosing a person with ASD with all these comorbid conditions that almost always exist alongside. Too many labels.

I was diagnosed with ADHD in 1st grade and took different drugs for it up until 5th grade.

I wouldn't go as far as saying most people with ASD have ADHD, but ADHD is definitely a common co-morbid with ASDs. I personally don't have it, but I know of a lot of people that do have both.

I also have problems with listlessness, where I'll lose interest in everything, even things I'm normally interested in and can't focus at all. And then there's my problem with distracting sounds and racing thoughts. I'm surprised I manage to read more than a page a day, and sometimes I only manage that much.

this is basically me, except my mind doesn't race as much as it used to.

I think that the attention mechanism in AS and ADD are very similar, except that Aspies hyperfocus more.

I also realize I was hyperfocusing more when younger, while now I tend more on the distarctible end. I've never been very physically hyper but I am very mentally restless - i.e. my brain is screaming (metaphorically!) to start other activities or thoughts when I am supposed to pay attention to something else; I am never satisfied and peaceful etc. I also have a paradoxical reaction to caffeine since it makes me calmer.

But I've never had troubles with academics (I don't know how, since my organization was horrible - always did things in the fit of despair of the last minute), so nobody ever looked into it. Well who cares after all. Just a curious thing to know.
