Depression and Citalopram
I think one week is not very long; I read that the side effects should pass within 'the first few weeks' so that would suggest at least two weeks.
I was prescribed citalopram and amytriptylene. They helped a little but not much. I did manage to gain ten kilos of weight in three months, and I was already quite fat before I took the meds. I couldn't walk without pain anymore after gaining so much weight, so I stopped using the medication. That was three weeks ago, and I'm still a bit ill from withdrawal. I get dizzy spells. I'd say the withdrawal was worse than the getting used to the meds, and I only used them for three months.
I just hope I get the weight off.
I was proscribed citalopram, stayed on it maybe a year, side effects never went away though my sex drive returned once I quit.
It didnt do anything for my depression, rather I found it sort of turns you off like a Zombie so you dont care about being depressed.
Only good it did do for me was to totally end anxiety, made me a bit fearless which could have gotten me into trouble where I work, people at work do consider me somewhat strange due to my behaviour at the time.
Made me rather reckless on the motorcycle as well.
Do some internet searches on its effects and maybe you will stop taking it before you damage yourself.

Dude, people are different, and react to medication differently. I don't think trying to put people off a certain med because it didn't work for you is a good idea. I myself have been on citalopram for about a year. The side effects went away after a week, and while its no miracle cure (what medication is?) it has helped me cope with my depression, anxiety and anger a lot.
I can't comment on whether its better than any other anti-deps, as I've never been on any others. If switching meds wasn't such a hassle, I'd like to see if any others work better for me.
