I am undiagnosed as I don't have great insurance that will supplement the tests I would need to see a psychiatrist, but my GP has me on celexa and concerta. I recently went in and suggested that I may have Asperger's and ADD but he seemed very upset that I was making these suggestions - probably because GP's only deal in the realm of depression and anxiety. I am 29 years old but I brought my dad in with me that day to back me up which probably only made my doctor nervous. Oddly enough, the next time I went in he said "do you have trouble concentrating?" Why yes, yes I do. The concerta/celexa cocktail has me feeling better than ever. I'm on a low dose of concerta and will probably stay that way as it it causing circulation problems/high blood pressure, but I was ready to jump off a bridge. I feel better... It's very frustrating to have suffered all these years and a little pill makes all the difference. I envy the younger folks who were able to get the help they needed at an earlier age, although I might not have turned into an anarchist, otherwise.

I have ADHD Combined. I take Wellbutrin, because I also have Bipolar. So far it is working very well and has made a huge difference in my life.

I have it. I am on too many other meds to use Concerta anymore so up the creek.

According to the psychologist that tested me, I don't have it. He had me take the CPT II. If you haven't taken it, it's a computerized test where large white letters flash periodically against a black background. The goal is to press the spacebar upon the appearance of every letter with the exception of X. I did well; with the exception of impulsivity (I guess because I tapped spacebar on a few X's) my charted line was below the average baseline for people who had ADHD. I guess people with ADHD would be more inclined to miss letters?

I still strongly believe I have it, though, and am frustrated that my psychologists/psychiatrist want to approach my inability to, say, complete a college math course as merely a motivational problem stemming from depression. I am frustrated with life in general as I find it difficult to start and complete things, even if they are things I take interest in, not because I'm not motivated, but because it's incredibly easy to get distracted. I don't think I'll ever go anywhere in life in this rate, which is depressing. I don't know what to do other than keep seeing different doctors until they possibly confirm my self-diagnosis.

Just posting in here suggesting that there's a difference between true ADHD which people actually do have a condition of it while students who don't give any care about it by choice usually don't have ADHD.

I have a ADHD-NOS DX. I'm still not certain to what degree it affects me though.

I have charecteristics of both Tourette's Syndrome, and Asperger's. A psychologist diagnosed me as having ADHD. So far I've avoided medications. The neurologist I initially saw, when I was a toddler, back in the 80's said that the drugs for T.S., namely Haldol, can have serious side affects which might be as bad, if not worse than the disorder, so he decided against prescribing me any. My parents took me to see this doctor, because they were concerned about my flapping my arms, and/or hands. This was before Asperger's Syndrome was as well known, so he just told them that it was probally Tourette's, and that I might grow out of it. But now of course I know that it's more typicly a stim. So yes it is possible be on both the obsessive compulsive, and autistic spectrum.

I have an ADHD-NOS dx (received last year), and am pretty sure I have Asperger's as well. I am hoping to find a medical professional with some experience in diagnosing it in adult women within a decent driving distance. I am planning to try ADHD meds, the thought of anything that can help even a little sounds great.

ADHD is a cop out for a poor psychologist that is too lame to examine the patient fully and make a proper diagnosis.

In the real world, it is easier to just diagnose everyone as having ADHD when they are disruptive or active, then to actually understand that the problem goes much deeper.

Most people who have AS - have actually been diagnosed at one time or another as having ADHD / ADD...

You are correct that many people who have AS have been diagnosed at one time with ADHD. One of them may be me. But to make statements that insinuate that ADHD doesn't exist just makes you seem ignorant. ADHD has been accepted as a real medical condition for some time now by medical professionals and the APA. ADHD is a common co-morbid of autism, and there is a great deal more to it than being disruputive or overactive. In fact, for the many people who are diagnosed with ADHD-PI, these symptoms do not even apply. Learn your facts!
