yup, my brother. I remember reading some recent research about schizophrenia and ASD's being caused by different expression of the same gene. definitely fits my family and I see that it is quite prevalent here.

Same here. I have one low-functioning autistic cousin and a cousin that I swear has AS.

I'm curious to see if there are any other undiagnosed Aspies lingering around.

I have a dad who is schizophrenic, and bipolar.

I'm only 16 with AS, but I sometimes feel like I might have schizophrenic related issues, but I might be a bit young to know. I can at least hope not

My brother has it. I didn't know until today. I can't believe my dad never told me. He first got it like 5 years ago and had a relapse last year. He's an aspie, too. I'm afraid now his personality is quite changed. He doesn't seem as bright as before.

I hope this doesn't go down to my children (or his). My family's got quite a large share of mental problems already. There's no enough money to take care of everybody's problems.

My currently deceased great aunt used to suffer from it. Also some very distant relatives of mine (brothers to each other, I don't know them) had it - one of them is deceased as well, now.

My grandmother has paranoid schizophrenia. It started when she was ~20, now she has a psychotic episodes about every 2 years and it's usually caused by her unwillingness to take her antipsychotic meds - she doesn't like the side effects so sometimes she just quits using it and then relapses into psychosis once again.

My entire family both on my mother's side and father's side have mental history
especially on my fathers side almost all have schizophrenia.
My fathers sister elder one was admitted into psychiatric unit for longtime when i saw her she looked like a ghost
reed thin, with all her hair left open.
Her daughter doesnt get alongwith her husband they are divorced and even her son is divorced.

My dad's 2nd sister is very voilent she screams, yells and abuses on the phone. She is not in touch with anyone
Recluse and isolated.

His 3rd sister died couple of years ago. she was often sick and bed ridden. She would never cook food or live a normal life.
Two of my fathers brother have died after they attempted suicide.

On my mothers side my moms brother is reclusive he doesnt socialise i havent seen him in years though living in same city. My aunts
seem ok to me...but yes they keep doing crazy stuff.

There is no relatives basically all are mostly eccentric and dangerous to get involved with.

My mother had a major psychotic disorder, possibly schizophrenia, though the psydocs were also thinking bipolar could fit.

And me, I'm schizoaffective, a form of schizophrenia (with a mood disorder.)

I'm pretty sure that my grandmother (paternal) had it. She used to get delusional and talk about her hallucinations. I remember seeing her taken away in a straight jacket when I was about 7 years old. I cried. She also would get violent towards my mother. My two younger brothers show signs of paranoid schizophrenia, with delusional aspects. One of my brothers calls me and talks for hours about conspiracy theories and describes elaborate theories for curing disease. Or he tells me fantastic stories about being followed by mysterious agents, or of channeling higher beings. I love my little brother, so I just listen until I get overloaded and then I tell him I have to go.

That's cool that you were able to have that experience like that with your grandfather. He sounded like an awesome person.

I don't know if anyone in my family had/has/or is being diagnosed with Schizophrenia. I've have/had family members diagnosed with Bi-Polar disorder, PTSD, and ADD/ADHD.

To be honest, I don't know a lot about Schizophrenia. I just know it's another neurological disorder and it can affect lives greatly by having the affected person see/hear/touch things that other people don't see and it causes them discomfort. I am fascinated by this diagnosis though and I have yet to met someone in real life with it.

One in a hundred people have some form of schizophrenia, and chances are high you'll have met people on that spectrum, and just not known it. Medication can really help with the symptoms, and a third of all schizophrenics actually have a full remission. Another third are helped by medication. The other third remain symptomatic, regardless of medication, which is tragic.

I've known schizophrenics hold down responsible jobs, drive, raise families, live "normal" lives.

Oh Namaste. I'm sorry you had to put up with that... I don't know if he was schizophrenic, but he was surely a terrifying man for a young woman to be around. I hope you've been able to find some peace despite such a traumatic childhood.
