Today was kind of a reminder of who I can be sometimes, not in a good way but rather the brain fog really hit me again as it does sometimes. I mean I was literally sitting in a chair for 5 hours doing nothing but attempting to do my homework. After waking up at 7 am to try and get started on my homework I was unable to overcome the brain fog until about 1-2pm. Trying very hard though, reading paragraphs then getting side tracked forgetting where I was when I return to the page ten minutes later then repeating the same sentance over and over again. It's an easy thing to forget that my brain chem is messed up for what ever reason. This day was very maddening, maybe my autistic traits- maybe not. I started hitting myself in the head in an attempt to get my brain to work. This is something I used to do a lot, now adays I do it maybe once a month have a hitting frenzy. Well this might be off path again.

Anyways....does anyone else have add innatentive type as well?

I have been diagnosed with that but I wonder if that's completely accurate because I think the diagnosis specifies periodic hyperactivity and I've never had a hyperactive moment in my life. I was just asked a few questions and they tried medication and it helps. I do still have major problems with inertia and motivation and executive functioning. The meds help me last a little longer and also help me to prioritize small tasks but only to an extent. I guess for all practical purposes I do, but I wonder about that periodic hyperactivity. Seriously, I was born tired.

I have inattentive type ADD - and when tested I had no evidence of hyperactivity or being easily distracted. What I do have is difficulty focusing on things that others want me to focus on, or things that aren't interesting to me. I also have a somewhat weak verbal working memory, so often I have to intently focus to understand and retain what is being said to me.

Here is an interesting article about ADD without hyperactivity. The researcher, Adele Diamond, suggests that ADD should be categorized separately from ADHD because there are distinct differences between the two.

Yes, am ADHD Inattentive including central auditory processing disorder summarized as: distractible with a short attention span. The most insightful book I have come across about ADHD Inattentive in adults is a How To (understand) Hyperactivity book (1981) about ADHD Inattentive by C. Thomas Wild. Some insights here and there (not a cure). The How To book does report three FDA approved medicines (Tirend, NoDoz, and Bonine) which temporarily reduced symptoms a little (not a cure).

My son has ADD and takes concerta xl - This has helped him tremendously in school, he is able to sit in his seat and focus on all his lessons. Before meds he would talk non stop (I mean for hours!) and would get frustrated so easily. However, I worry that he seems too quiet, like the volume has been turned down..? Also, when asked a question he seems to have trouble answering it, he says its like the words get lost from his brain to his mouth (although this could also be his AS). Plan to get him assessed for APD next month.

Yes, and I use low doses of caffeine to avoid drifting off.

ya same for me...except at night I would be paranoid as crap and heart wouldn't stop going fast.

and that was half the dose...can't imagine 60mg everyday

my other psych had me on 150mg ritalin before that...then started having chest pains (Now about 1 or 2 years ago)...which I am still having =/ could be from smoking (though have quit now for over a year)

I find a good multivitamin, and omega 3-6-9 does a good job. Not a crazy good job but no side effects really. Also beginning to suppliment with vitamin D since I live northward and alot of people are saying vitamin D deficiency is the cause of a lot of mental health problems. Worth a shot...only 5 bucks for a whole bunch.

i got a message from someone about this topic saying inattentives need way over the recomended dosage...I wonder if that's what people are saying around the psych community since my last psych had me on like double the max.

My new psych is reluctant to prescribe anything, so max quantities she also isn't likely to do.
(Which is part of the reason I am sticking with her because she isn't just trying to shove pills down my throat)

seems to me they need to find better solutions to the whole add/adhd dilema

Studies show that meditation improves ADD symptoms.

http://www.wildmind.org/blogs/news/mind ... in-8-weeks

Quote:
The analysis of MR images, which focused on areas where meditation-associated differences were seen in earlier studies, found increased grey-matter density in the hippocampus, known to be important for learning and memory, and in structures associated with self-awareness, compassion and introspection. Participant-reported reductions in stress also were correlated with decreased grey-matter density in the amygdala, which is known to play an important role in anxiety and stress.

My ADD symptoms seem to rachet up when stressed, I'm sure there could be a link that way.

Exercise is good too.

Was looking for it in the z...and before and after the paragraph but not at the "here"....

Haven't finished it yet but I will when I get back.

Going to look more into dysexecutive syndrome as well.

Thanks for the link.
