I've been having small bouts of that, "what am I gonna do now?" feeling. An Ativan or Valium seems to take care of it but once it wears away, it's still there. Not quite sure what to do.

I don't want this to sound snooty because I certainly don't intend for it to come off that way. Some people really need medication, I understand this. A lot of the time, though, medication just temporarily covers up an issue that really needs to be tended to. It seems like that is happening in your case. You might do this already, but I would recommend seeing a counsellor to help you through some of these issues so that you won't have to wearing about the good feelings wearing off in a few hours.

Like I said, I REALLY hope that doesn't come off mean as it is very sincere (and an attempt to be helpful). I feel the same way much of the time too, and I am taking the counselling route after having failed medication attempts in the past.

Too little information to go on. Is there a specific source for the anxiety ? How long and how often on the Valium ?

at least with medication, you're able to either have insight as to what is wrong and do something about it or if there's nothing wrong but you feel as if there is, medication will give you a break from these worries to get out and do something productive.

I'm leaning toward what Littlelily says. I Don't think that Benzos are your best strategy here if all it does
is numb things down for a few hours.

Maybe so, but just think how much MORE productive you can be when you get the issue solved rather than just masking it for a couple hours....

a journey of a thousand miles starts with a single step.

Let me get out the door first.

Besides, this particular anxiety is in my head. Nothing is wrong, it's all good but I just get that feeling. Nothing counseling can help with. Chemicals. Plain and simple.

You are the one who said medication wasn't working and wondered what you could do next. I suggested if medication doesn't work than that single step should be taken in the direction of a counsellor's office. You're keeping yourself in the door; I am only making a sincere suggestion. If it was "chemicals. plain and simple." then the medication would be helping you. All anxiety is in people's heads, btw. That is the definition of anxiety--something a person feels withIN themselves. If it was caused by something external, the term we use becomes "fear".

You seem to be pretty settled in knowing what is wrong, so it is unclear to me why you need advice, since we are all wrong, and you are right.
