You might look into Generalized Anxiety Disorder.

SSRI's are commonly prescribed for older adults. But, they have bad side effects for teens and young adults and should not be taken without close supervision.

Professional help sounds like a great idea, if your life is significantly impaired.

But, since USA and UK health care systems are so different, you need to talk to someone in the UK about your options.

Several different disorders have repetitive unwanted thoughts as a symptom. Its something I experience too.

Best place to start is your GP. Write down anything you want to say to him/her if it helps. You could ask to be referred to a psychiatrist for a diagnosis if you want to.

GPs aren't too good at identifying individual mental disorders, and are likely to either say it is because of any current diagnosis you have eg Aspergers, or that you have depression. You might need to be a bit pushy with him/her.

I have never been diagnosed with AS but i have been diagnosed with semantic pragmantic disorder as a child.

I don't really want to be diagnosed but i probably need to talk to a GP in the upcoming months about this.

Sounds like Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. It's very treatable, if you go to your GP.

Yes i pretty much suffer from the same thing. I've been diagnosed with General Anxiety Disorder, however ones thinking patterns can and do pretty much coincide with OCD like behaviour. What is it exactly that you can't seem to stop obsessing/worry about? The type of issues you're worrying about I think determines the treatment best suited for ones help. If your worries are at an advanced stage like mines were, then medication (as in the case of myself) is necessary. Hopefully you don't find yourself in that predicament but you have to get back your ability to function minus your obsessive thoughts. Therapy can help, but it needs to be ongoing. Best of luck. I know how hard life can be with this problem.

I can't stop obssesing/worrying about my height and measuring myself up against other people cause i am only 5ft9. i have been having this obssesion since 2002. Its just gets to the point that if i am around taller people it gets me really hacked off and impairs my ability to function or if i am in a large crowd and see a lot of people taller than me i start to become very annoyed and agitated and its annoying as well when i have too look up and talk to very tall guys cause i feel like a little kid. that and i worry obssesivly compulsivly about that fact i have poor social skills when hanging out with my friends.

I know i am f****d

I'm 5ft9 too. Yeah it's not the most tallest of heights, so yes i can understand why one would wanna be taller. For me it's not really a problem, but i did feel a little insecure in high school when everyone seemed to be growing except me. my best friend in high school (whose name happened to be James :) ) was 6ft4. So yeah it was really the big and small combo, the two of us.

I can understand what you're going through i had similar experiences, and still do obsess about the way i look. it had a major impact on me. i would recommend getting some help. I waited until it was too late, and i pretty much lost all my opportunities due to wasting away my mental endurance on silly, meaningless things. But to the person going through it, it doesn't seem meaningless, and is a huge source of hardship. you have to learn to control your anxiety. once you do that, you will find it easier to stop obsessing on those things.

I'm on medication already and it has helped me a lot with my anxiety. Unfortunately natural foods didn't really help, so i needed to be prescribed meds. i've been on meds for over two years now.
