i go through those things also. the only time in my life i can remember when i was free of that was the few years i was taking strattera. my best non-expert's guess, is that the strattera boosted the power of my frontal lobes [executive functioning] to ride herd over the other parts of my brain [especially the temporal lobes] that were misbehaving and causing me the various functional problems i'd been having up to that point [wandering attention, periods of missing time, seeing fleeting dark figures out of the corner of my vision, obsessions/compulsions, depression, et al]. the only working advice i can impart on anybody who is interested, is that when an unpleasant thought enters my consciousness, to immediately do to it what parliament does to the PM when "question time" comes around and give that thought a critical grilling, and if it is wanting i immediately and with extreme prejudice shove that thought out of the way with another thought, ANY other thought that is neutral or better. for a while there, i was thinking the thought "I REALLY LOVE ICE CREAM!! !" over and over, as a replacement thought for the depressing and disturbing thoughts i had been having. it was the lesser of two evils, AFAIC.
