I got tired of dysfunction and distress, so I went and got dx'd. Come to find out I have OCD. They prescribed me Respirdol, citalopram, and celexa. So far I'm still not impressed with what the medication has done for me. I thought it would put it to an end as soon as I took them. But, no, nothing.

Its been 7 days and still feel the same but with a little less paranoia. I'm confused that they prescribed me both an Anti psychotic and an Antidepressant even though being diagnosed with OCD. Look forward to it actually working thought and start my counting again, I look back and did I count.

Have you read up on how these meds work? I don't know about any other kinds, but anti-deps generally take at least 2-3 weeks to start having any noticeable effect.

Yes, I have only read what is in "The Pill Book", which really didn't help out too much, except the Respirdol can take 1 day or 5 days depending on your liver. and its been that long. I was just expecting an over night sort of thing. But I see your point.

My OCD issues are fairly bad sometimes & I've been on lots of psych meds for different things including the OCD. I've tried Respirdol, some other anti-psychotics, a few meds in most all the classes of anti-depressants, tranquilizers & mood stabilizers. None of that has ever helped with my OCD unless it was by making me very tired or really zoned out. However I started taking Buspar a few months ago because I was having some panic attacks & was acting really clingy with my girlfriend because I was nervous about things. I decided to try Buspar because it is specially for anxiety(Buspar is the only med that is specially for anxiety BTW) generalized anxiety disorder is it's only FDA approved use but it's sometimes used to treat other anxiety problems. It's helping my anxiety a lot & that is indirectly helping my OCD a little. I still have the OCD urges & thoughts but I'm not having the anxiety that I used to have about it; I still have the obsessions & compulsions but I'm not having panic attacks about em; I'm more relaxed with it. I'm going to be trying Anafranil for my OCD soon because having the thoughts & compulsions is still causing some problems for me; it's very distracting. Anafranil is in the tricyclic antidepressant class because of it's chemical structure but it's used to treats OCD & not really depression. I would suggest researching Anafranil & Buspar if the meds your on for your OCD don't seem be be working for you after you tired em a while or if you have problems on them. I'm not having any side-effects on my dosage of Buspar(which is 10mg 2wice a day) except I bruise more easily but I bruised easily before

My OCD is intrusive thinking mostly and hoarding. Which I'm guessing is the same for you. I just made a weird mixture that helped with that and my anxiety. Its in the health and fitness section. I've only had it tonight and it seems to be working. I should probably try it tomorrow when I am more alert rather 7:00 AM. Does the Buspar or Anafranil help with intrusive thinking when wanting to do task?

I do have some hoarding tendencies at times but that's not really a problem for me; my dad has Obsessive Compulsive Personality & his hoarding issues are kind of problematic but not extremely bad. I do have some intrusive thoughts but I feel the compulsions are more problematic for me. I have other types of OCD issues to thou.
I looked at your recent post list & found it. I would be a little concerned if there is a sudden improvement that wears off after a bit but I think it's probably fine if the affects are more gradual & consistent.
Anafranil helps with intrusive thinking but I have no experience with it yet. Buspar does not help with the thinking but it helps a little with the anxiety that's associated with it; least for me

It's interesting to see people post about the combination of the two. I know my father had both. I didn't realise he had the anxiety until I was much older and was able to understand what was happening around me a lot better. I do notice that whenever I get anxious, certain habits seem more prevalent than they would normally. I seem to need to do these or think these things in order to either calm myself down, or make myself feel like I have some control, even if there is something I could not possibly control.

Same here it seems to help a lot. I need to be by myself or in the right environment to not have a chemical release of some sort.

I agree re the right environment. I generally find that I'm ok in a familiar environment, or if I'm in an environment where I'm doing something I'm passionate about, I don't seem to have any problems, or few at least.

Re the right environment again, there was a long time where I felt anxious being in a social situation in which is a regular thing. That's because my mind was telling me negative things about what the people were thinking about me etc, which impacted on the way I behaved. Since I've gotten over that anxiousness with these people, I feel I have come out of my shell, although I do need to work a lot harder on this, as I know I am capable of doing so, as when I'm in another setting, I just can't seem to shut up.

Medications can take up to a few weeks to start fully working. I recommend you stick with it and see how it works for a few months.

Citalopram and Celexa are the same thing. I take it for anxiety and it works pretty well for me.

It also might just take some tweaking of dosages and different medications after you give it a chance.
