Since 2007 I have agonized over AS... since then I have had therapists think I have it and one very ambiguous doctor, but I keep getting diagnosed for different things (currently schizoaff., anxiety and Borderline).

The only things certain are the facts I have serious mood regulation problems, anxiety, and some things with the appearance of AS such as extreme interests, social problems and on top of that high intellegence.

Almost 10 years, well actually 9, and no resolution to this AS problem! What good would it do me to get diagnosed? And what if I'm barking up the wrong tree? Mentally different but not in the AS way? Intellegent with mental illness, who studied birds and became the Mad Ornithologist?

It must suck to have so many symptoms of AS only to be told you don't have it especially if you are having struggles. But I would then try and find out why you are having those problems and see what is causing them. Sometimes other conditions out there are a cognitive distortance of your autistic features. But have you had any if them from childhood? Have you gone to an autism specialist and get tested for autism to see if you are on the spectrum? I don't understand how you can't get tested for it to prove you have it or don't have it.

If you are already on Social Security and already getting help, then the label wouldn't matter. Also if therapists have thought you have it, why wasn't it ever made official?

I have a similar problem with no resolution in sight. It's not like there is a cure for autism. I am on some meds that help with the anxiety and mood regulation part. Perhaps find a better psychiatrist? For social situations lately I've gotten better and it does help to talk about them in the family. :)
