Do you think psychological conditions could be mapped?
And if so, where? I'm trying to see the big picture... some seem to be opposites, for example, whereas the norm in society is an equilibrium. Autism and psychosis e.g. - there might even be neurochemical evidence of this.
But what else? Is OCD a contrast of anything? Could the map have four or so edges like the left-right-liberatrian-authoritarian political map does?
Have you found out anything about this with your intuition?
I don't see schizophrenia and autism an opposite. I even strongl belive that autism, , bipolar, schizophrenia, adhd and lerning disorders are strongly connected to each other.
I'm not sure if there really is something as real opposites.
Take mania and depression for example. If they would be real opposites you couldn't possible have both at the same time (mixed episode), but it is possible. They just FEEL like opposites, but I belive that in the end they have the very same root. Some chemical imbalance or something else, not being able to control the brainchemistry.
So I belive diagnoses are too complex to be seen as total opposites and have in every person slightly different reasons.

Search google for "interpersonal circumplex model" and also perhaps "personality disorder" at the same time. They have put all personality disorders in a neat model, how accurate it describes the big picture is up for discussion. I brushed briefly onto this subject in this thread; http://www.wrongplanet.net/postt201975.html
