The results of my psychological testing is in, and I have been diagnosed with "Schizoid Personality Disorder." But was also told that I have "traits of Aspergers" as well.

I really don't know what to say or think about this. As I honestly believed I had pure Aspergers. Now I am told that I have its "fraternal twin," as my psychologist put it. Now what should I do now that I have the diagnosis?

Now what?

You have different choices:

1) rethink it, read into SPD, find out what traits you have and don't have. Find out if it fits and why.
And accepting it.

2) depending what you find out be 1) or if you want to find out get retested again.

The problem with SPD:
So far I know, it's not even anymore on the DSM-V, but I don't know exactly why.

I know for me, when I try to communicate my subjective experience of symptoms and brain anomalies, some major part always seems to be lost in communication. A psychiatrist may want to diagnose you in some specific way but, and scientists have done recent research on this - the brain just doesn't work like that. I don't think one could realistically say that ANYbody has a "pure" form of anything.

I also see it that way and that we all have problems out of different areas. That's also why a lot of us have more than one diagnosis and sometimes the problems can also be seen in different ways.
But a diagnosis still has to fit and that's the mainpoint. :D

I was officially diagnosed as Schizoid instead of Aspergers but I'm pretty sure I have Aspergers instead. Sense the diagnoses which was 9 years ago(thou others I seen sense then believed I had SPD instead of AS) I've done a lot of research & reflecting/analyzing on my problems/differences/issues & I believe that my SPD was caused by my AS & other problems but the experts saw the effect & didn't get the cause. I say I have Aspergers instead of SPD because I'm pretty sure I do have AS instead but officially having SPD instead doesn't make a difference in my life because I'm no longer seeing mental health professionals & I wouldn't be able to get help in the way of services in my area even if I did have a psych paper saying I have Aspergers. What matters is that i figured out what I have for myself & I found a great community for it & learned & grew a lot from understanding it. I'm not sure what you should do because that's something you have to decide for yourself but I think it may help to take some time to do some research on it & let things sink in.
