When I was a child, my mom would take me to the park to swing on the swingsets. I loved it; but I remember that each night afterwards, when I would lie down and try to go to sleep, I would get a strong, very disturbing sense of being on the swing again, going back and forth. It caused me great difficulty falling asleep.

I know no one on here can diagnose me, but it will be a while before I see my psychologist again, and I'm curious if this is a common sensory integration issue?

I used to sometimes get a sensation that the bed was floating in an ocean, not sure if that is similar.

repetitive motion often does this. A lot of people have the sensation that they are still walking when they rest after a long hike. Especially true for people on boats.
It's totally normal.

I do identify with a feeling of a "floating bed," and swinging on swing sets did used to be a great provider of sensory input to me....but now that I'm an adult, I'm worried about how I'd look swinging on a swing set at a park, and even if I did want to swing on a swing set now, I couldn't bcuz these days I get motion sick from it. :(

But yes, I think the feelings of motion are pretty normal...that is, as long as it's not distressing for you. I think it's kind of the same thing as "treadmill feet" - when you get kind of used to moving your feet in a certain way for an extended amount of time, so your feet and legs kind of feel "conditioned" to move that way even after you're off the treadmill.

Thanks for the replies, everyone. It's good to know this might just be normal. The thing that struck me as odd about it was that I got the feeling hours after swinging, instead of right away.

The "floating bed"... Yes, it's kind of like that, I think.

I have a similar problem adjusting after walking in wind. It leaves me quite disoriented for ages.

I also used to get this after swinging. Also after going on the slides at the water park- lying in bed, I would feel like I was still sliding and swaying from side to side.

WOA! I do this constantly! I thought this was completely normal- like everyone did it. I still do this. Like I can close my eyes and it will feel like my feet are kind of bending over my head and I'm floating (not all the time, randomly....) but of course I don't really feel my body move. If that made any sense what-so-ever...

For me it is the same when I get off of a boat, I feel as though I am on the boat swaying in the water even afterwards. Or after jumping on a trampoline I feel like I am still moving in the air somewhat. As a kid swinging on a swing would sometimes cause a slightly nauseated feeling, but I suppose this was motion sickness. In the past I did get rather ill on a ferry that was going over rough waters and the next time I went on a ferry I took a anti-nausea pill that was made for motion sickness and it made me sleepy so I just pretty much took a nap while riding on the ferry.
