Biting and picking at my fingernail cuticles until they're raw and bloody has been a problem of mine ever since I was at least 11 years old. I'm 21 now. I heard from somewhere that picking and biting at fingernails in that manner can be related to OCD. Is this true? I've suspected that I might have some form of OCD for awhile....in fact, lots of people thought so when I was growing up, but my dad and I had to pretend that I didn't so my mom wouldn't be allowed to put me on any kind of medication when I was little....my dad was strongly opposed to that all during my childhood.

....Anyway, what do you think? Is this related to some form of OCD, or is it just a bad habit I've had for years? I bite/pick at my fingernails mostly when I'm bored or scared and anxious. Anyone telling me to stop or prevent me from doing this usually provokes a swelling of rage within me. How dare they try to take away my only source of comfort and calm, I think to myself.
