As I mentioned in this thread

Frustrated with Diagnostic Process

I went for an ASD diagnosis, but was given a personality questionnaire. I scored Schizoid PD. This is the second time that I have received this diagnosis; the last time was about a year and four months ago.

I'm worried about my case with SSA because SPD has been removed from the DSM (the place where I was diagnosed has not adopted the DSM-V yet). The psychologist agreed with me when I said I could not work full time, but if my diagnosis is not even in the DSM, how do I prove impairment? Is anyone else in this situation? I don't know what is going to happen.

Also, does anyone have any research papers about SPD?

Incidentally, I went over to the schizoid forums again and I can't stand it. There are a bunch of misogynistic as*holes over there (well, there are some here to, but I don't see their posts as often), and the fact that they don't really care much about anything is palpable and kind of tiring. I don't see many similarities between them and myself. Good thing there is wrongplanet. Ironically, after I joined the schizoid forum and posted an introduction, the first response I got was that my writing style was suggestive of Asperger's Syndrome.
:chin: :hmph:

Also, if anyone is interested in a cool page that purports to discuss different levels of SPD, here it is:

Well Asperger's is sometimes called "schizoid personality disorder in childhood" and some researchers think that so called "schizoids" are mainly people with Asperger's. I don't know about it, but there is a huge overlapp and many autistics would score positively on SPD questionnaires. Even I have higher scores there and the strange thing is, I'm a very social autistic person.

I can't answer that question that easily if SPD is a disorder or not. I think if someone is just a loner, that's no disorder, but people with SPD very often have other problens like loss of interest, low energy, not being able to work or a high rate of comorbidities.

Do you meet criteria for Social Communication Disorder? Both it and SPD overlap with AS in terms of social symptoms, but are not associated with repetitive behaviors.

I had to look that up. Based on Wikipedia's explanation, I don't meet the criteria. I think my verbal communication abilities are rather good, actually.

The 1st psych I saw thoguth I was an Aspie but when she referred me for tested the doc & everyone else I seen sense thought I was a Scitzoid instead. Aspergers was listed as my primary disability when I got on SSI because it was before the testing & 6 years latter when it switched to Social Security Disability because I had worked I was refered to a specialist because of the discrepancy. It was a guy who speciality was kids with sever developmental disorders. I didn't think I could get an autism diagnoses from him because lots in that area think autism is a less sever form of mental retardation. I tried to get assistance before from specialist who worked with developmental disorders like autism & everyone was surprised that I had a high-school diploma & they also said I seemed too intelligent & communicated too well verbally to have anything on the autism spectrum. I met parents of a couple autistic kids & the way they described their kids they sounded more like mental retardation than classic autism. I didn't want Social Security to cut me off for not having either so I acted more like a Scitzoid with the guy; made myelf act more zombieish. I'm not sure what his report said but I got approved for SSDI. I hadn't had a review sense then so I don't know what would happen if I had one now that SPD is taken off of DSM V but I'm not too concerned because I have a few psychical disabilities as well as dyslexia.

I think SPD is a disorder in the sense that the chracteristics can cause problems & limitations for the person & those iaround them like their family. But at the same time I think it can be kind of a learned thing or adaptation. Sometimes psychs mostly see the SPD symptoms or see them 1st so they get a 1st impression & they don't get the cause underneath them.
