I now spend 80+% of my time devoted to replaciong contaminated items washing my hands avoiding contamination and so on. Its at the point where im spending hundreds of pounds replacing items. I move from one obsession to another now. I had a rash which I thought could have been caused by some exotic microorganism I picked up while sailing down the congo river (I kid). I believed that it was contagious so I spent hours sterilising the area researching methods for eradication and trying to determine what it was exactly.

Once that healed up I moved onto the next thing which was that the lecturers at my uni being involved in an ancient coven practising unholy magic (srsly) I know its preposterous but theres a 1/100000 chance that its true and as a result I tremble to go into uni now. I see signs everywhere confirming my suspicions such as the name of a composition one of my lecturers produced "snake eyes" or an amulet worn by another lecturer.

Its killing me, im considering just ending it all to escape from the incessant fear based ideas buzzing round my head. I dont know if you can imagine what its like to be in a constant state of panic and terror over fears generated by your own feverish imagination.

Im getting ot the point where if I do keep going on im gong to have a total breakdow. Apparently I left my bed and screamed outside a housemate's door at my last address. I dont know if this is true or not but given the levelsd of anxiety im dealing with....

If I could I would seal myself away in an elanorate system of hermetically sealed bubbles. Unfortunately I ant do this so im left to confront my deepest darkest fears every second of every day.

Medication usually help very well against OCD. In your case you could try it, before it destroyes your life.

SSRI's and antipsychotics conflict with medication im currently already taking - antipsychotics also made me more miserable due to I imaginthe dopaminergic inhibition. All pleasure was sapped from life. Even the simple actof smoking a cigarette became unpalatable

I know what you mean. I have severe pure-o OCD and it drives me nuts. My SSRI helped me a little bit, but it wasn't worth taking it imo. I go through stages where it completely manifests my life, to stages were it wears off a bit, but is still definitely present.

Binary: You're obsessing. Generalized anxiety disorder. You need Xanax or something first of all. Second, as for covens and witchcraft, all you need to do is say the name of Jesus and you're 100% protected. I promise. But please, get some anti-anxiety meds!

Did you watch any of the documentary based at the Bethlem Royal Hospital in London?

They appear to have residential help for people otherwise unable to relieve their OCD symptoms at home. I would go and see your GP and ask for a referral to see these specialists. In the programme, there were success stories so please don't give up hope.

Could you tell us what treatment you've had and what meds you've tried?

None tbh. Ive been an opiate addict for 6-7 years. Luckily its only really been codeine so my life hasnt been torn asunder. However im currently on maintenance and SSRI's interfere with the metabolism of the opioid surrogate. The end result is I end up in withdrawal which is not an improvement.

Would you consider psychotherapy with meds for OCD?

Well im going for CBT and this summer im kicking the opiates. Ive tried many times in the past and succeeded but living at home meant constant psychological torture so naturally I ended up relapsing.

Is it OK for you to take seizure meds? Some of those are occasionally used for OCD & anxiety. I take Neurontin/Gabapentin for OCD which is an off-label use & my OCD is a lot better than it was. I take a lower dose & I don't notice any side-effects nowadays. My girlfriend has OCD & I suggested she take the supplement NAC/N-Acetyl Cysteine because she wasn't ready for meds & I stumbled across info that NAC was being investigated to help OCD & thought to have an affect on the same thing for it Neurontin did which I had good luck with. She finds it helps & she takes the brand Source Natruals which I order off Amazon. Lyrica/Pregabalin is kind of a more potent version of Neurontin that helps some for OCD or anxiety. & Topamax/Topiramate is another seizure med that can help some with OCD but it's also sometimes used for weight loss so it's better for people who are overweight.

Ending it all is a terrible idea. I once considered suicide when I was going through a terrible time, but I didn't follow through (thank goodness!! !! !) and I'm starting to enjoy life much more now. You could have an amazing life ahead of you--most people who feel this kind of pain don't feel it forever, and nobody said you will.

You seem to feel helpless, and feeling helpless never works. It's best to find ways to feel encouraged--even if you're not there yet, you can still tell yourself to keep pushing on until you feel better. What helps me is to mentally "talk back" to irrational thoughts that lead to obsessions and compulsions, which takes practice and the ability to catch yourself thinking the thoughts. It won't come right away.

Listening to songs about overcoming challenges, writing in a journal, or expressing your feelings in the form of art helps. Also, trying to feel a sense of purpose is important in overcoming this type of anxiety (I've been through something similar.) Finally, try to develop a deep sense of caring for others--as in, living to make others feel good--if you don't focus this much on the feelings of others already.

You can do it!! !!

woud second this, that docu did incredible work with ocd sufferers [ie,they really were suffering with it].
heres a link have found on the place, and it mentions anyone from GP to pyschs can make the referal-
http://www.national.slam.nhs.uk/service ... ices/adru/
the only issue can see is around funding from local PCT depending on how wealthy they are at the time, and how far away are from the hospital, because weekend leave is part of the inpatient stay to make sure everything learnt is carried over.

hope find someway to take control of it other than a permenent release, used to live with someone who had profound ocd ontop of profound autism, her ocd was imediately life threatening but the main issue just involved total anxiety around drinking liquid [especialy water] she woud drink it out the toilet if the taps were turned off and a toilet was unlocked, she lived in fear if she didnt get near water, she was also TC epileptic and because she woud drink so much water it thinned the medication in her blood stream and she was always having seizures;the worst damage came from biting her tongue open and doing damage to her face when she fell every time.
have got every respect for people who cope with such fear from ocd ,it isnt well understood by those of us who dont have it.

I have the same exact issues with my compulsions, because they always get out of control.
