Dopamine-related side effects from meds
I don't know if this is an AS thing or if I'm just unlucky. I seem to be plagued by dopamine related (extra pyramidmal) side effects. I've had long battles with akathisia (restlessness) and tardive dyskinesia (uncontrolled movements of mouth) and now I've been diagnosed with parkinsonism tremor and possibly muscle stiffness.
Whats crazy is my meds are not suppose to do this. I take Fanapt which has a really low rate of this, though it could be the lithium.
Are there other people with these problems?

All anti-psychotics can cause tardive dyskinesia, though if such didn't start when you first started taking it or from a dosage increase, it's possible that your other symptoms and that could be a part of another neurological condition.
Stopping the anti-psychotic if possible and seeing how you go would be prudent -- discuss that with your doctor.
Parkinsonism and muscle rigidity are neurological signs.

In the past when they stopped me all together on antipsychotic I ended up very manic somehow and I spent a week in the psych ward, so not a good idea. I find self-medicating with benadryl helps a lot, but the problem is I go to sleep and that makes me not want to take it. I am going to see a neurologist, I don't know when.
