Mental symptoms, physical disease: a dose of sanity
This link is lecture notes written for potential use in training people who want to be mental health professionals. It is a very comprehensive examination of the way that physical illness is misdiagnosed as mental illness. I am posting it as it contains a wealth of considerations which are overlooked every day leading to significant rates of misdiagnosis by mental health professionals. There seems to be a very very long way to go before they take this information on board in their thinking and practice. I hope the day comes when they do better because they know better, rather than acting as if they already know everything, as many do. Also I hope that the information here may be personally helpful to at least some of the people who read it.
