I went to see this doctor (not my GP) that I have to see every month or so. Last time I went, they talked to my mum alone and said something about getting tested. I went to see them again today and they told me that I'm getting tested for multiple personality disorder... I think it was multiple personality disorder... It may have just a been a 'personality disorder'. To be honest, I really don't have a clue what either of them are.

I'm really worried because I feel like I have this list of things wrong with me (autism, ADHD, OCD, anxiety disorder, insomnia, asthma, high blood pressure etc) and that if this list gets any longer people will just think I'm making it all up. Surely someone can't have all of these diagnoses, can they?

I mean, what is a personality disorder? Am I insane or something? I'm panicking about this.

You should not be separately diagnosed for all of those things. OCD, ADHD, anxiety disorder, and insomnia are all related to autism.

I was told that many of my previous diagnoses would be removed because they were a part of autism, not separate disorders.

Multiple personality disorder is a controversial diagnosis, because many doctors don't believe it exists. There's a lot of evidence that therapy accidentally convinced many patients that their different emotional states were actually other personalities.

My experience is that some therapists nowadays don't believe in MPD (dissociative identity disorder) or even repressed memories for that matter. I'm not sure if they are right or wrong but the tide is changing a little.

I doubt it was MPD (DID) unless you've been having blackouts where you lose track of time or sudden changes in personality. Possible a different personality disorder but my take on this is sometimes people will legitimate complaints and concerns get thrown into this category.

Also, from my experience the therapist will sometimes take sides with either the patient or the parent. If there is any conflict of interest I'd let your therapist know and ask that you speak to him/her alone. If you get along with your parents it's fine, but I always wondered myself about what she was complaining about me when I wasn't in the room. I didn't care for it too much.

Multiple Personality Disorder isn't a personality disorder. It's now called Dissociative Identity Disorder and it is a dissociative disorder. Basically your mind is kinda split up into different identities (the 'personalities', but they are more like people; 'alters', they are called) and they were formed to cope with long-term trauma, the first starting from childhood. Amnesia (about the past or your day-to-day life) will be a symptom because each identity has their own memory. The alters can take turns controlling the body, so it's like multiple people living in one body.

Personality disorders are stuff like Borderline Personality Disorder, Narcissistic Personality Disorder, Avoidant Personality Disorder, etc.

Maybe you act really different in different situations so they want to test you for this?? Like different enough that people think you're someone else?

Anyway, for more info on DID, I recommend http://did-research.org/

Good luck with your mental health stuff :O
