Hi everyone. I've recently been diagnosed as bipolar, and I notice on my "down" days, I can't even think of a reason to get out of bed. My husband has to encourage me to do it, but if I could, I think I'd just stay there all day. How do you get out of bed on your bad days? :(

Yeah, I used to stay in bed on my bad days too. The only way I got out of it is to form habits/routines (exploiting that part of ASD). I would get up at the same time everyday, even on my days off (maybe lay in for an extra hour at most). This constant cycle broke me out of it and just became the norm.

But honestly, mental health sucks. Most of the time there isn't any point in getting out of bed, eating, keeping good hygiene, or even functioning. Even when I get up, I just find some other place in the house to vegetate. But hey, that works for me so maybe it could help you :)

Having a routine helps me as well, and also setting goals that I can succeed at, even through my depressive phases. I've been much more stable since I adjusted my overall life goals to a level of challenge that is realistic for me every day, and not just on my good days.

Also, it's important to have hobbies that you're capable of doing in your worst times. Even if it's just favorite TV shows, computer games, etc. It feels less depressing if you're spending the time doing things you enjoy!
