NLD?
Hello!
I have a question for anyone who may be able to offer an answer.
At age 16, I was diagnosed with Perceptual and Social NVLD. When I entered college at age 20, I was made to be tested again. Somehow, it came out that I did not have any form of NVLD, or Autism, just Autistic traits, (I was being tested for both). Instead, I was diagnosed with Schizoaffective disorder. I was told that my lack of social skills, inability to read faces, inability to understand sarcasm and sayings and such, saying rude or inappropriate things in public, a lack of feeling and empathy towards others, as well as my difficulty with writing, math, etc. were all because of my new diagnosis of Schizoaffective. The learning deficits were because of cognitive difficulties relating to SZA.
I guess it could make sense, except for the fact that the psychologist I was tested by said I have no gap in my verbal and nonverbal IQ, which I had when I was 16, and that was the main reason she didn't think I had NVLD. I guess what I'm wondering is... Can that even happen? A change in having a gap between verbal and nonverbal IQ? My grandma thinks I'm more on the Autism or NLD spectrum, along with the Schizophrenia spectrum. Unfortunately I can't afford to be tested by a psychologist again.
I was also on psychotropic medicine during my second evaluation (Haldol, Latuda, Depakote, and Cogentin), and I wonder if that makes any difference either, as I wasn't on any medications when I was assessed at age 16. All of my report cards from kindergarten to grade 11, and reports from my child psychiatrist were given, and a week worth of testing was done during my assessment when I was 16. Just the results from that assessment I'd had done at age 16 were given at the second assessment at age 20. And it was only 3 sessions long.
I was already diagnosed with Schizoaffective disorder, before the most recent assessment, so I can trust that diagnosis, but I'm not sure I trust that I could go from having NLD, to not having it. And I was told the reason an Autism diagnosis was not given, and only "Autistic traits" was given, because of my diagnosis of a psychotic disorder. So confusing!
Sorry for the long post!
