ASD/personality disorder

Before I got diagnosed with ASD I saw a psychiatrist and he said he strongly suspected autism spectrum disorder but in his report he also mentioned that my "personality has been adversely affected". What could he possibly mean by that? Does he mean a personality disorder? If that's the case why wouldn't he diagnose me with one?

Do you still see this psychiatrist? Can you just ask him?

This is not black and white matter. Science is very inexact here.

I'll explain:

I think taken into account asperger's label when it comes to routines and rigidity I would say I like to think myself as having schizotypal characteristics instead of autistic. I mean I have no problems at imaging what it means that tree (or even an electron) might have a soul. I can create logical structures out of nowhere but I don't follow strict logic in everyday matters. My extreme top bottom thinking makes it bit hard interact with engineering kind of mind set as they tend to be very bottom up we both fail to see logical equivalences and my lack of concrete details makes them suspicious and I judge them as being superfluous. I'm more like mad scientist philosopher hybrid than mechanically inclined engineer even though we may have similar interests.

It could be that the psychiatrist thinks your personality has been affected by ASD? Or there's the possibility of a personality disorder. I'm really not sure. Asking the psychiatrist is really the only way to get a definite answer.

After I was diagnosed my psychiatrist told me I had some 'personality issues' as well. Turns out I she (and I believe the specialist diagnostic team, although they never mentioned it so I am not sure) felt I had strong traits of anankastic / obsessive compulsive personality disorder alongside ASD. I am not too worried by this as many of these traits overlap considerably with autistic traits and I do not qualify for a diagnosis as the ASD takes precedence. Might be worth a discussion with your psychiatrist to find out exactly what they mean as minionkitty suggests.
