Sometimes I take melatonin and tranquilizers (half a pill) together, when I have especially bad sleeping problems (what usually happens when I have a manic depression phase). It seems that these two medications in combination produce much better effect than just melatonine or tranquilizers alone. When I take melatonin alone I often end up spending all the night in a state of very shallow sleep when I remain half conscious. And tranqs just don't work in such cases unless I crank up dosage (what I don't want to).
I wonder if there are any reasons why doing this is a bad idea?

There is nothing wrong with taking both.

I see no problem with it, your body naturally produces (or should) melatonin anyways.

My issues with melatonin is it most always gives me nightmares.

I've tried melatonin many times and it does very little for me.
