I am not dxed schizotypal but definitely have traits.

I was wondering how you felt about friends. Do you want them or are you not that interested in friends?

I am someone who occasionally needs company but doesn't like anyone getting too close to me.
Most of the time though I am happy with my own company.

I have no friends. Indeed have only had a handful of friends in 60 years .

I am not at all proactive when it comes to developing friendships . When it comes to the need for company from time to time it's very much with family.

I was told I fit all the features of schizotypal when I was going through a psychotic depression but didn't have it. I always been a loner & I never liked being around my parents much cuz they were always very critical of my Aspie quirks & other issues. I'm an only child & never had a close relationship with anyone in my extended family cuz of my issues. I mostly had offline friends when I was working or in school & I didn't mind them but I lost touch with all but one of them 1ce I quit those things. I preferred online friends but I had a hard time keeping them because of my depression. I did get lonely some thou & I wanted a girlfriend for that reason. My girlfriend is my best friend & she's enough for me thou I wouldn't mind having a couple offline friends sometimes.

My previous psychiatrist told me I have either schizotypal personality disorder or mild schizophrenia. As a kid and a teenager I obsessed over friends and felt horrible that I was never able to make them. I think this was because my mother used to brainwash me about how I needed to socialize. I don't want friends anymore, because the efforts cause me nothing but stress and also I have a black and white approach against people so I'm very picky when it comes to friendships (or let's say I can get easily upset). I'm happier alone, in my own shell.

Are you talking about schizotypal or schizoid? Schizotypal is the one with delusions. I think I meet the criteria for schizoid. However, a psychologist told me that if you have schizoid and ASD, you would get diagnosed with ASD over schizoid because their profiles overlap, according to the DSM?

IMHO, "Schizotypal" is just a BS diagnosis. This is just a way for a psychologist to slap you with the "schizo" label, and have be done with.

In the literature Schizotypal is informally considered "schizo lite".

And with the many sociopaths and psychopaths (seriously speaking here) in the psychology/psychiatry profession, it's an easy label to slap on somebody who's introverted, has depression, and PTSD.

Also, putting that label on a patient makes that patient dependent on psychologists and pharma meds for life.

Hell, I couldn't have thought up a better underhanded business-model if I tried ! lol

But seriously, "Schizotypal" is a BS diagnosis.

And I've done the research on this many times, so I know what I'm talking about.
