My town just suffered a natural disaster. Un-forecasted major floods through the central business district, water 3m in height throughout downtown. Personally, I had to evacuate, drive through roads that were closed a half hour after because of too much water over the road. But no house damage (thankfully. Thankfully). Out of a town of 25,000, 16,000 of us were evacuated that registered, more that got out on their own. Its been a few days and the water is going down. But helicopters are still circling looking for stranded people. Our town, a regional center, is destroyed.

It seems everyone around me has a rallying spirit. A "lets go help out whoever needs it" spirit. Whether its cleaning, cooking meals for the cleaners, or donating clothes to the victims who lost everything. But me, I can only hide in my room. Its like I feel too much. Feel all the hurt around town. I can't stop thinking about it all and I was barely even affected. The worst was spending a night at a friends house, wondering if the house was going to be flooded, and struggling with food because the roads were cut off, so grocery stores couldn't restock.

Does anyone else "feel too much"? Like I'm the one who has to feel all the pain in town. We aren't supposed to be able to feel empathy, (which I don't agree with). But I am SO anxious and just plain distressed over this. Is this a "me" thing, or do others feel more than the average person as well?
