Maybe some professional help would be a good idea? Technically, 32 is not too old to get schizophrenia. It can happen whenever, but generally, onset happens by age 30.
Right now I agree with others that this sounds more like it's exclusively PTSD-related (hypervigilance and/or flashbacks).
I'd think therapy and/or medications could help with sleep and anxiety. That might fix many of your problems right there. Of course it's also a matter of the time that you will need to recover.
I am sorry to hear of your troubles. But I encourage you to try to keep a positive frame of mind, seek support from others in your life, and pursue clinical treatment as well.
I 2nd this if your not already seeing a therapist or taking psych meds. If you are something might need to be changed or added. Therapy &/or anxiety, OCD, or antipsychotic meds could be potentially helpful.
Also Auditory Processing Disorder is not uncommon with those of us on the spectrum & it can cause us to misinterpret sounds sometimes. I'd bet that stress & anxiety could make it worse & we might could wonder if we're hallucinating when that's not the case. If your prone to OCD, this may be an OCD thing where your mind is getting hung up on something & the sound you thought you heard is an intrusive thought that seems to be coming from somewhere else if this makes any sense. A professional would probably be better at figuring this out.
