Hallucinations at night

I'm having hallucinations a lot. They're bad at night so I sleep with the lights on. If I sleep with the lights on I don't feel the need to run out of my room as much. My family keeps turning the light off and I don't know. Wake up in darkness and get scared. I keep talking to people who don't exist. My family doesn't know it's happening again. I've always been one to hide them. it's really frustrating because I can't remember what happened. I just know it's my thoughts out loud. Sometimes I think I'm talking when I'm not. I'm on medication. I've been on it consistently for a few weeks now. I'm on a new one for anxiety too.

What's your med list?

Abilify and Buspirone. Only ones I can tolerate. I've tried a few and got sick. I've refused lithium cause I was scared and also Im not great at telling people if something's wrong.

And what were the ones you couldn't handle?

Various antidepressants that I can't remember the names of. Abilify is a great one for me though. I just don't know about Buspirone.

The Buspirone is the new med for anxiety that you have been prescribed?

Apparently Buspirone can be better for anxiety than anti-depressants/SSRI's are. You can easily look up reviews on the medication via a search engine, in various places on the internet.

Buspirone has a known side effect of insomnia, which certainly wouldn't help your situation.
Is it prescribed as an anxiolytic or an antidepressant?
I'm wondering if you should discuss a more traditional anti-psychotic than abilify with your GP.
Chlorpromazine may be better at night and is often used to come down from LSD.

Buspirone is prescribed for anxiety, not depression. Unlike SSRI's which can be prescribed for both issues.

You've never been prescribed anything "off label"?

Since Aripiprazole is an antipsychotic it seems likely that buspirone is used dual purpose.
My connective tissue disorder is renowned for generating unusual responsiveness to a lot of pharmaceuticals. I have had many prescribed off label.

Zembrin ......Theonine ...adjust as needed .Add melatonin and tyrptophan if due to extended stress . . much less bad side effects .IMHO.
Warning: do not use concurrently with SSRIs , wean yourself off them before use.

Drugs are only used off-label when there is some evidence of them being useful for an ailment that a drug hasn't officially been licensed for.

For example, Clonidine, initially approved as a blood pressure drug, is sometimes used in Tourette's Syndrome as a second line medication.

Buspirone, afaik, has no therapeutic effects on depression, and is only really generally prescribed for anxiety, particularly GAD (generalized anxiety disorder).

It's affinities for 5HT receptors certainly wouldn't preclude antidepressant effects on it's own.
Ah... I see it is generally used thus in a geriatric setting where it's dopaminic effects are offset by anti Parkinson's meds

Yeah, it is used to augment first line anti-depressant medications, although I think that happens less commonly in the UK than in the US, from what I have read.

I don't think it would be strong enough to be a standalone anti-depressant though. I read many years ago that as a standalone treatment for unipolar depression, buspirone failed to beat placebo in a clinical trial that explored the clinical effectiveness of the drug in treating unipolar depression.

P.S, I'm sure there are more clinical trials out there that have found different things, but that seems to be the gist of the drug usage of buspirone if I am understanding what I have read, correctly.
