Hello Joshua :)

Yea, I suppose there are a lot of them where I live. There's even one at school. And a street in downtown dedicated to the happy peoples.

But like most social things, I'm afraid to go. Not really worried about being outed, since I don't have any friends and couldn't care what other ppl think - well maybe not out to moi mother yet.

I know a couple of people who are part of the "community". I don't consider myself to be though.

Have you guys found that you were able to navigate through the gay community alright?

I don't really like the idea of the gay community. I know, good luck meeting someone if I don't, but ... it just seems centered around things I don't like very much. Like alcohol, casual sex, fashion, nightclubs, that sort of thing.

I realize that some people feel the need to make a show of being gay, and that's OK, but I don't like being expected to. There has got to be some kind of sane middle ground between being in the closet and walking around with a giant billboard saying "I'M GAY."

I don't know where you live, but believe me, the gay community is very, very real.

Heh, the happy peoples. If only.

I'm not afraid to go so much as just not interested. (See what I said above.)

I was thinking more of a metaphorical billboard.

I share your sentiments Dougn :) and I want to add to that list the shallow, bitchy, queeny attitude the eminates from many of the types of people that would go "on the scene" - Happy peoples?? I think not.

And the sex: yeah I know for some people sex has to be included in "having a good social time", but to me it is something personal and I don't feel comfortable with it being slimed everywhere. I get annoyed when I go to a straight club and people slap me on the butt, it's insulting.

Totally with you Doug.

That's what I was talking about, heh. I know two gay people at my school, and one graduated last year. I've heard about a thing in Indianapolis, but I'm not aware of a gay community in my city. I sure haven't seen any billboards. ;)

Since I'm not a very sexual person, I'm not sure of my sexuality but I'm definitely at least attracted to the same sex.

It's still something I feel uncomfortable about, mainly because people try to talk to me about it, and I never know what to answer. But then, I'd probably feel just as uncomfortable talking about boys.

No. I have nothing against it but I'm pretty indifferent to sex, including depictions thereof.

The "I wish" referred to me specifically - I'm sure some of the people "on the scene" are indeed happy but being there wouldn't make me happy. (And I'm sure there are plenty of unhappy people there, too.)

Gay people who aren't into any of that have to meet somewhere, but where? *sigh*

When you find out let me know :(

I don't see how everyone "on the scene" can be happy people. I mean... people constantly looking for meaningless sex with strangers? The bitchyness / queenyness? The alcohol? Drugs? Such things are not signs of people who are totally happy.

Well, some of them must be happy, I suppose. And others unhappy.

I think there are happy people and unhappy people just about anywhere you go.

Hello all... :) No longer lurking, I finaly decided to register and post. :)

People in the "gay scene" are just as diversive as people in the "straight scene" or "club scene." Human beings as a whole are just weird people with no one group being correct or incorrect, just looking for different things. I myself can not stand the club scene, I love the music. As a matter of fact I could be there all alone and listen to the music and be 100% happy, but start adding people into the mix, I short out. Every time I go to the theatre or opera I have to drug myself almost to the point of knocking me out to enjoy myself, we won't even talk about going alone.

But I digress, i have seen so many sides to the "gay scene" since I've turned 21... eventually you will find a niche that you can call your own. Mine... is on-line gaming. Gay geeks are much more fun as you can hold an intellegent conversation and throw a few sexual remarks once in a while. :)
