I have a blonde wig, but it's a girly wig that I use when I cosplay as Fai Fluorite from Tsubasa. Image
My Sensei [at Karate] has an old Darth Vader mask.

Mee too! Although I'm having a lot of trouble finding a good wig to make Cloud's hair. I used to dress up as Darth Vader quite often as a kid during Halloween. He's my favorite Star Wars Character!

Wigs are a complete pain, I say. Hate the bloody things.

Bought a couple, one for Bridget, and another one for Noel Vermillion, another favorite character of mine. Noel being her:

I dont actually use that cosplay all that often though. The Bridget one makes me paranoid enough. Noel makes me REALLY paranoid, and just as with the Bridget one, people get a tad strange about it at times. Also those rope things get caught on every conceivable object that they can. They're just as long as they look.

But yeah, I bought wigs for both, but A: I cant get the damn things to stay on, and B: I already have so much hair, I cant get it all UNDER the damn things. For those two characters though, nobody seems to notice the problem (in Noel's case, it's because she normally has a hat on, so her hair looks shorter than normal as much of it is in the hat).

If I'm going to do Misery though, the character in my avatar, I'll *need* a wig, because her hair is freaking BLUE. This fact annoys me. It's either that or find a way to temporarily dye it, so it's able to be washed out after one day.

I'm bloody determined to do that cosplay though; there really isnt another one I desire to do more than that one right now.

Cosplay as a whole though, it can be a tad frustrating. And nerve-wracking...

Having known a few late-transition trans women, and having a sister who was in theater for a fair part of her adult life, the way to keep wigs on is to Google:
hair pins
wig cap
spirit glue

Thank you so much! It'll be totally useful for both cosplay and crossdressing!

Nope, not my thing. I don't care if others do it, though. Once in a blue moon I might even find it a little bit attractive, but again it's not really my thing in that regard either. It's interesting to observe at huge gay parties, though. Some of these guys do an amazing job of their costumes, and the drag queens are incredibly entertaining. The ones that are makeup artists by trade tend to be the most impressively put together. I can appreciate the effort and end result, it's just not my thing in a sexual way. More power to ya if it is your thing, whether in private or public, be free to do as you please. 8)

It doesn't always have to be sexual. Actually, I think people who get off on cross dressing may be a different thing altogether. Many people just do it for entertainment purposes, or many pre-transition trans folk do so to work out their gender expression before hormone therapy comes into the picture. :)

Now I wonder how that 'hormone therapy' is... :)

"Transvestites", or people with a cross dressing fetish (ie they get sexually aroused by it) are a particular group; statistically they tend to be straight, white, heterosexual men who otherwise appear quite binary. For them it's more about "taking a break" from being at the top of the power hierarchy (take that as you will, as it can be fairly offensive in that "have my cake and eat it too" sort of way, IMO).

Others who wear cross-sex clothes do it for reasons that have little to do with sexual needs. Drag performers are just that, straight or gay people performing theater whose subject matter is gender expression and roles in our culture. Often they can be bitingly sarcastic and make strong political points about sex & gender roles in our culture. Cosplay people do it for their own reasons, too, as do trans people & sometimes there is an overlap between the two.

You are absolutely right about the level of skill some performers have. I'm lucky enough to live in the same region as the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, and they are pretty amazing (and do a lot of charitable fundraising).

Is there anything specific you want to know, please? It's a *big* topic! :)

Far as I know, it's usually not a sexual thing. But of course this may differ.

I cant speak for the others, but in my case I do it because I already have gender issues to begin with, and this is sort of a way I can "be myself" if that's the right term. So the conventions and such serve this purpose for me as the place I can do it.

And I guess that's also why I get so paranoid about it, really, is because it has that extra meaning.

Edenthiel, I remember the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence in SF from my days out there in the 1980's. My favourite camp nun was Bea Attitude. Very entertaining bunch. Where I live now my favourite crossdresser is Venus Sexton:

I'm sure by now everyone on this thread knows my crossdressing is strictly for entertainment purposes, although I'll admit I've had intimacy in drag occasionally after meeting up with fans after a show, and I'm not sure if these audience members would have taken erotic interest in me had I not been dressed up like a girl?

8O Nice legs.

Is it odd that when I dress like a woman I feel like I'm cross-dressing?
