I am not one that likes to judge others; of course despite this I like many still do from time to time. So on to my question, can a straight person have a gaydar? I'm asking because my Mom is gay and I swear I always knew it even before she told me when I was seventeen years old. In fact I asked her when I was a little girl and she lied to me about it; not because she was in denial but she knew I had a big mouth and didn't want me to be bullied at school for having a gay parent(understandable). Looking back at when I was little, I realized for some years I had three Moms; my Mom, my Step-mom married to my Dad, and my Mom's girlfriend (let's call her Beth) that lived with us; though I was told she was our roommate and they even had a seperate bedroom set-up. I loved Beth and always figured she was gay, nor did I care that she was or talk about it because it wasn't important to me. To this day I'm still in touch with her even though her and my mom aren't together anymore.

Maybe. But I always thought I could sense those things about people because I am not entirely straight myself.

My Mom seems to have quite a good gaydar, even though she's straight. On the other hand, my uncle (her brother) who is actually gay has an even better one. Then there's me, who is gay but wouldn't have a clue about anyone else except in the most flamboyant cases.

I don't think someone's orientation has a whole lot to do with whether they can spot a non-hetero. Experience is what helps identify someone, and many straight people have extensive experience with members of the LGBT community.

My mom is a lesbian, her gaydar is ridiculously good, her partner/my stepmom's is almost non-existent, and my gaydar is crap.

I don't think gaydar is about sexuality. But if you can get to 17 without knowing that your mother is gay, whilst she is living with a woman, your gaydar sucks. I mean it's really not that surprising that you knew before, is it? You MUST have known.

Most assuredly straights can have gaydar. I know one straight guy who is an exceptionally good "wing man" for his gay friends. (Who return the favour in the company of women).

My life is filled with doubts, and since I know that even evidently effeminate men can be straight, and that sometimes it's just stereotypical nonsense (and the fact one is passing judgement), I just don't bother with it.

my gaydar is pretty s**t, last year i had a full on crush on this girl who was so obviosly not gay it wasnt funny
also i find androgynous guys cute so here and there i like flirt with gay guys... fail.

my dads gaydar is also fairly terrible, yeah i thought my brother might be gay...he is nine and he likes girls oh and he doesnt notice the so obviously queer daughter of his....
