I really hate Gay stereotypes
You know i really hate it when men especially boys my age(im 15 btw) always imitate gay people and make fun of us when they dont know a thing about homosexuality and what goes on in our mind. first of all people think every gay guy acts like those gays shown on tv sitcoms, we dont all go around hanging our wrists down and emphasize our S sounds, high pitch voice etc, you all know what im talking about right? atleast i know i dont. it just makes me so mad that society makes gays out to be some sort of joke, and those stereotypes are being passed down to the kids, we are human beings and we are all different, its just like stereotyping different cultures, which also makes me mad.
hi! i found your post while googling something related to gay stereotypes in different cultures (hmm), and thought i should tell you that stereotyping any group of people makes me mad too.
like, 'omg ppl are so f*@%ing stupid i wanna find myself a rifle and an elevated archeological structure near a crowded area NOW arrrgh!!' mad.
and i often find myself telling my parents and younger brother (sadly, all extremely homophobic) that i wish i was born gay, just to piss them off.
i know it's not my place to say this, but try not to let it get to you so much. they're just immature and stupid (homophobes and ppl who allow stereotypes to cloud their judgement of other ppl, i mean).

Dinali you are so dead on with what your saying! First of all i wanna say thanks for being one of the few straight people whos not homophobic, i only wish there were more people like you so i could finally come out of the closet and not have to go through all the stress of pretending to be straight. What i wish homophobics would realize is that just because were gay doesnt mean we like every single guy we see, in fact i have a lot of guy friends that i have no sexual attraction to whatsoever and i play sports with. Thank you so much for your advice, i just hope that people start to mature a little more as they get older. Thats what ive always hated about american society is the immaturity of it. i mean the typical american teenager usually only worries about their hair or their soccer game, or maybe how mad they are about getting their cell phone taken away, while in china and india you have children as young as 6 dying of starvation, being forced into prostitution, and working their backs off in sweatshops. And its so cruel of americans to be racist when so many other people in the world struggle to work in those sweatshops to support OUR leisurely lifestyle.

this from the kid who doesn't think gays should be able to have children.

Where do you live, anyway? Did you know that the South currently has the highest rate in the United States of gay couples raising children?

Oh did i never say where i live in my other thread, well i live in western Pennsylvania, its a beautiful area surrounded by nothing but corn and the smell of cow poop greets you very morning lol, people here are very closed minded and are very racist. Whenever a drag queen walks down a highway here people will stop and laugh at him and ive even heard someone talk about throwing garbage at drag queens, while old people will make fun of them all the time in small restaurants, the people here arent very accepting of differences, i understand drag queen and gay are different but i mention that because gays are probably too afraid to come out of the closet in these small towns, i know i am. you say the south has a high rate? really? the south would be a wonderful place to live, so warm and nature there is beautiful, im actually surprised by this since i always thought the south was the worst when it came to accepting differences in people. Im glad things are changing in other parts oif america
Small towns tend to be very conservative. I'm sure your hometown is not unique in that regard.
According to the latest census results, that's true. Here's an article about it from the New York Times.

The South has a long history of being painfully socially backwards.

Wow, thats amazing! Gay people being able to become accepted members of society and even being able to go to gay churches with youth programs for their kids, you know you have really helped to change my mind on having kids, maybe its not whether we should raise kids or not, but the fact that we have to pick the right place to raise them. Ive always wanted so badly to have a family, and i always thought being gay would keep me from my dream, but you actually showed me that there is still a chance, you just need to live in the right place. Thank you so much for your help, you have no idea how much my life is impacted by having someone like you show me that i can still be accepted, and not just cut me down and say im just some kid who is dead wrong and should be ashamed of how i feel. Thank you thank you
Oh dear. You live where I grew up, in which case I totally understand where you're coming from. I was called everything from the n-word (my school was completely white) to fag and was bullied nonstop, and I wasn't in any way "out". We moved to the city soon after I graduated high school, and it's a different world here.
I also hate gay stereotypes. I think this particular set of stereotypes is more prevalent in the male demographic than among females, I'm not sure. Also, it seems like there is another certain stigma on sitcoms, I'm not sure how to describe it, that just irks me.

You're very welcome. I wasn't really expecting my showing you that website to have so much of an impact on you, but I'm certainly glad I was able to make you feel better about yourself.

If you're able to immigrate, Canada's also a good option. Gay marriage is allowed here (at least for now--our current government isn't a fan of it but if they know what's good for them they'll probably let it stay) and one of our major churches is quite open to gays (many others are going that direction too). We are GENERALLY more accepting than the states. Not to say that there aren't awful homophobes, just that there are fewer of them. Most people my age are very accepting. Mind you, I don't exactly hang out with a group representative of the general population. And those that are intolerant are very much so.
Oh, and Canada has a better health care system. If our government doesn't try and get rid of some of that too.
