I firmly believe in the right of same-sex couples to marry, and I firmly believe in the obligation of public servants to implement the legislation enacted by the legislature and the policy enunciated by their political leaders.

When one cannot, in good conscience, carry out the duties of ones office, the proper course of action is to resign.

Although a disagree with this woman's opinion, I respect her ability to recognize the supremacy of the law that she would otherwise be compelled to administer and her decision to resign, accordingly. We have won this fight in New York, and the law is on our side. There is no need to rub our opponents' faces in it.

You're right. She could have filed a lawsuit seeking an exemption from complying with this law because of her religious beliefs. What I find especially madenning is the fact that our opponents have the nerve to claim that we're the ones who are seeking special rights and priveleges.

But of course you are seeking special rights and privileges. You are asking these people to do something for you. These are people that are so used to having their orders followed that the idea of someone telling them what to do....?????? How DARE these people tell us what to do! Think of the type of person that would seek power. There will be people that care about others, but the culture that gets reinforced is the good ol' boy system of keeping things the way they are. Bottom line is, they are in charge. You don't give them orders, they give you orders. They are the ones who make the laws, not you. It would be nice if you told them what to do, but it doesn't work that way. Doesn't mean you stop fighting, but you can't expect these people to just wax their own beliefs. If you've ever tried to negotiate with a megalomaniac, you know what I'm talking about here.
