Why not set up a thread poll? One that asks, "Are you G, L, B, or T?" should suffice. You may want to include options for "Other", "Straight", and "Curious/Unknown". That should give you a rough idea, but not a truly accurate one.

Good luck!

Statistically speaking, I think there are more bi females than any other group. I'm sorry, I can't remember the studies to quote them, but they were in prominent peer reviewed journals.

Here is something I found interesting: (Edit: I can't post links yet. Search the internet for heterosexual bisexual finger length). Although that isn't one the studies I've read, there are at least a couple of them that are reputable and say basically the same thing.

Yes there are more gay men than lesbians. Statistics are all over the place but I have met/read about/heard of relatively few females who were strictly interested in women. That's not even considering that (in my experience) many women who identify as lesbian do have sexual attraction towards men, They just have a preference for women for a multitude of possible reasons. Just do a search for all the articles going on about how much lesbian women love hot gay man porn, or yaoi (gay male anime) You will be shocked at how many "lesbians" jump in to agree in the comments of these articles. many of them are turned off by the idea of straight relationships/sex more so than they are strictly interested in women and only women. Gay men on the other hand seem to be very strict about their preference for men, so few of them even considering women.

That's just my theory though. I am not a lesbian or even a woman and I don't claim to speak for them or want to offend any of them :), I just read a lot about them because I like them.

It is likely that there are more female bisexuals though.

I think there are a few factors at work.

First is the rate of incidence. Conventional wisdom has it that the incidence rate of homosexuality among men is higher than among women. Some studies have backed that up, but it's a notoriously difficult issue to pin down.

Second is the rate of visibility. Even if there are equal numbers of gay men and lesbians, conventional wisdom has it that gay men are more visible than lesbians. There are a couple of factors that may contribute to this:

1) Spending power. Men are statistically more likely to be employed than women, and when employed are statistically likely to be earning a better wage. This gives gay men a significant boost in spending power, which allows them to be "out and about" more.

2) Socialization of sexuality. Men tend to spend more time looking for sexual partners than women do (again, this is a gross generalization), which means that they are statistically more likely not only to be out looking for a partner, but also declaring their sexuality.

3) Domesticity. Again, conventional wisdom has it that lesbians are more like to form early and lasting relationships that will take them out of the social scene and into the neighborhoods where they settle.

All of this is, of course, speculative, and given its broad generalization, certainly doesn't apply to any particular gay man or lesbian.

Wouldn't work, even for a rough idea. Those with ASD can not be considered a representative population. First of all, there are more males with ASD than females, so that would mess with the results of such a poll. Also, we are more likely to be asexual, once again screwing up your results. And finally there is the possibility that ASD is caused by hormone factors in the womb, which is also a working hypothesis for the cause of homosexuality. So there could be some correlation (positive or negative, applying to both men and women, or just one or the other) in there which would throw things off.
