Transwoman attacked on an NYC train
This is just so sad. The worst? This poor woman has been harrassed so many times, she didn't even realize just how severe the problem was.

I'm more pissed off because, of all the people, cultures and sexual 'freedoms' that are supposed to be present in such a city as NYC, well, kinda shows just how bad it is in less 'enlightened' areas.
What's worse? The person assaulting Pearl (Transwoman's chosen name) is a person of color. There was a time not so long ago, the same things were said about people just like her. Makes you wonder if people ever remember how bad things were.

Some people think it's racist to expect POC to always be less bigoted than white people. Since someone is considered part of a marginalized group, the way they think should fit within certain boundaries?
Just look at the Facebook comments: The supportive responses use misogynistic slurs and threats and suggestion of violence. They support a transwoman by using violence and misogyny against the presumably cisgender woman who assaulted her. Is it any surprise that the default perspective in this world isn't acceptance and compassion?
Trans people are the current big thing. It'll drag on for as long as people can make news out of it, just like they did with gay stuff.... During the fight for gay marriage, gay people focused on that while transgender people were (and continue to be) the target of hate crimes at much higher rates than gay white cisgender men. But there was always transphobia among cisgender gay people.... In gay communities racism and fatphobia is also a major issue. Why didn't being marginalized insure that no gay people are transphobic, racist, fatphobic, classist, misogynistic?
Does it make sense? Well, for any human it doesn't make sense to not be brimming with kindness and compassion for fellow humans.

I don't think it's racist to think that people should remember the things that were done to them so that they don't do it themselves.
She was entitled to an opinion. She was not entitled to verbally and physically assault anybody else.
And, in a time when people are making news for all the true racism, it's not unreasonable to expect people to think before they do unto others that they profess is done to them on a daily basis.
And, during that time when gays were the big and upcoming news story, I didn't appreciate getting slammed by my friend's gay buddies who ragged on me all the time for being a 'het'. Was told several times by one guy that where he went it was a 'No hets allowed" area. Really nasty individual.
Little did those pricks know just what they were dealing with.

Sometimes, you have the most extreme bigots and idiots right here in NYC!
If I were openly gay, I would only show off my "gayness" in Manhattan. If you do it in the Outer Boroughs, people start acting like rednecks. The Outer Boroughs could be just as insular as a Southern small town.
I agree. And, it just makes me sad.
But, I gotta tell ya, the comments section on the story is really frightening. Much support, but the ones that weren't, were really, really bad.
Just ignorant, black hearted people.
But, what can you say when Larry Wilmore gets up on stage at the White House Correspondents Dinner and says "My n***a" to the President, at an affair that is supposed to, and expected to push boundaries, and the nation freaks out.
Seriously? With all the real problems, that's getting attention?

I don't disagree. But people need someone to demean. I think it's an automatic function. Cruelty and callousness became normal long ago.
^Real problems? Many people don't consider a transwoman being murder to be a real problem. It's just right. Don't dress that way if you don't want to die. It's usually only a real problem if it directly emotionally affects a given person. People are selfish. It's why "supportive" responses try to support the transwoman by being misogynistic and violent against the other woman. They don't actually care, IMO. They just feel good feeling like they care.

And, I completely agree about the people with the 'supportive' issues. And, many of them may have their own axe to grind on this stuff as well.
Those comments in the comment section were scary at some times.

Not only the language, but then assaulted someone without cause. That's very worrisome.
The comments were amazingly stupid too. To me, that was the worst part. A great deal of supportive comments, but then straight bile and hate. No in between.
