I am straight myself, but believe very strongly in LGBT rights almost as if it were a religion. I recently bought an American flag with rainbow stripes instead of red and white at a local Pride festival and it's hanging over my bed. I'm trying to come up with a good Pledge of Allegiance for not just myself but all LGBT rights activists to use with the rainbow flag and its variants. Here's what I have now:
I pledge allegiance to the flag of all queers and allies of America and the people and to the values for which it stands: equality, knowledge, acceptance and love. I swear to uphold its values, combat ignorance with education, and defend its people so long as I shall be able.
I know some people see "queer" as a slur but I've also heard it used as a blanket term they use themselves. If that is offensive I need help as to what to say instead, as "LGBT" seems too awkward IMO.
Does anyone else have good ideas for a Pledge of Allegiance to the Rainbow Flag they'd like to share?
