It's so annoying. Why assume I have/would want a boyfriend? Not everyone is straight. I don't even want to date anyone right now anyway, I want to make some friends first.

Strait people (like me) make up the majority, so it's a reasonable assumption to make most of the time.

I'm sorry but I don't find it reasonable.

Most people aren't smart enough to handle complex multi-choice situations. You give people a couple of options and their eyes glaze over and their brains stop processing...

Because that's just how society is. Hopefully it will begin to change (for the better) over time.

I've always found it extremely annoying, but I have no problem with immediately correcting them.

It's prejudiced, but it's still much safer than when homophobic people think you're gay.

I don't assume anything unless someone tells me directly ... which is funny because my brother and my mom always say they got "gaydar" and they can tell who all the gays are without knowing anything. Though once again I feel like this, either you tell me directly or I know nothing because the worse thing you could do is assume and then make that mistake and possibly offend someone.

If it's men making the assumption, it's probably because you're fairly attractive and they are hoping for a date.

In many areas of the USA, generally the GOP held states, many do not believe anyone is actually LGB or T (or asexual, or pan, or...). So therefore everyone must be straight, including you. It's a way of enforcing gender binary expectations via privilege.
