I try to attend a transgender support group every week, and I don't know why I do. I just want to come and be with people who are transgender like me and get support on that stuff and just talk about how life is going.

What I don't want to do is show up and listen to people b***h about politics, and religion. I know that a lot of people in the LGBT community don't mesh at all with certain political parties and religions, I feel I just spent a half hour of my life I'll never make up for, listening to several of them monopolize the convo with their views of religion and politics. Nothing but negativity, stereotypes, gossip, over generalization, and ignorance.

My AS makes it worse because I can't just tell them to shut up or change the subject, so I sit without speaking, and try and keep myself sane on my laptop.

Find a different support group.

Personally, I'd rather go to one where they talked about religion and politics than one where they talk about mundane stuff. All the ones I've been to have been the latter type, and I tend to be quiet in them.

There is one other support group, but it's super strict, and I haven't gone to it in over a year. Other than that there aren't any in the area closer than a hour+ drive.

I think I'm about to give up getting support through this method.

Also just found out that the meetings on Thursday are being moved to Friday which I won't be able to attend due to other commitments. And the meetings on Sunday are going to be cancelled, so I won't be able to attend anyway.

I guess that solved that.

What about other quiet members of the group?

There really aren't any other quiet members of the group. Yeah, when some of them monopolize the convo, others will let them talk, but near everyone contributes except me because talking to them is sometimes super awkward, but regardless the problem kind of solved itself so I guess I need to find a new support group.
