Article: Lesbian waitress fired amid anti-gay receipt hoax accusations

Morales, a 22-year-old ex-Marine, claimed last month that she received an anti-gay message from a customer on a dinner receipt. The message read, “I’m sorry but I cannot tip because I don’t agree with your lifestyle & how you live your life.”

The receipt also showed that the family left no tip on a $93.55 tab.

Morales contacted “Have a Gay Day,” a nonprofit organization, and her story went viral through the reporting of various news outlets like the Huffington Post. People from across the country offered to send Morales money, and she set up a PayPal account. Overall, the waitress received several thousand dollars in donations.

But the accused family came forward a couple of weeks after the story was first reported, saying that they did not leave the message and actually left a 20 percent tip.

Apparently, this Morales chick is a total liar.

are more followups to the story too.
once exposed she said she was going to give donations to charities. Those charities report no donations from her.
Her military service record is not what she claims it to be either.
Sad, few enough GLBT exposures in mass media and when something like this happens it makes us all look bad.

One thing that has been reported in a number of news stories is that the waitress lies quite frequently.

For example, she cut her hair and allegedly said that it was for cancer treatment but changed her story when someone questioned her about it. She also allegedly said that a boat crashed into her living room during the hurricane last year but when someone went to check on her, they found that her house actually had minimal damage from the hurricane.

She also allegedly lied about her military experience. Instead of her being the only survivor of her platoon in Afghanistan, she was never stationed in Afghanistan. And she was apparently discharged for failing to show up.

The story about the restaurant bill was highly suspicious. For example, it was reported that she said in her facebook post that she would have spit in their food if there hadn't have been children present. Think about that a bit -- if she was going to spit in their food for not tipping her, how did she knew that they weren't going to tip her. Or was her temptation to spit in their food after they had already finished eating, had paid, and had left the restaurant? It's not like it was some kind of fast food restaurant where you pay before eating.

I like your line of creative thinking. I like to think of many possibilities.

However, it is hard to tell if you mean it as a joke on top of my comment, or sarcasm that points out the preposterousness of the "alien" not being gay.

Either way it is funny, and good. :wink:

I heard about this before I was informed here that it was a hoax.
This isn't particularly good because whether the waitress was homosexual or heterosexual, it gives the gay community another bad look. :(
